2020 has changed the digital lifestyle of Russians

MTS presented the results of a comprehensive study “How Russians spent 2020”: a pandemic, a difficult economic situation and sudden changes have led to the transformation of the usual digital lifestyle of the country’s residents.

Due to the prevailing epidemiological situation, face-to-face meetings have become less frequent. On the other hand, the number of phone calls has increased, and companies and organizations have begun to actively implement video conferencing tools.

In the past year, the average talk time on cell phones increased for the first time in recent years: an increase compared to 2019 averaged 12 minutes.

The load on Internet channels has increased dramatically: data transfer traffic has jumped by almost 40%. Social media has made up for the lack of face-to-face communication, and online video platforms have replaced cinema and entertainment trips.

The study showed that the shift to remote work had an impact on the activity of employees during the day. Workers were slower to start tasks after waking up, but they spent less time at lunch and more “linger after work.” On average, the working day increased to 10 hours.

In view of the current situation, the demand for cloud services in Russia has almost doubled. This year, companies were 2.5 times more likely than 2019 to implement solutions for organizing the work of traveling employees – determining the location of couriers and vehicles, automatically assigning tasks and monitoring their implementation.

It is also noted that a large number of calls and online conferences made wireless headphones the main gadget of the year: their sales in 2020 increased by 45% in monetary terms.
