The world is in decline: the former alliances have disintegrated, the peoples are scattered, and the hope for prosperity seems more and more a mirage. Legends say that in ancient times there was a great flying state that united twelve empires under the banner of prosperity, exchange of knowledge, culture and traditions. And this legend is destined to become a prophecy: ancient drawings are imprinted on dilapidated tapestries that will help to raise the kingdom to heaven again. And now, among the clouds – the harbinger of a new era of creativity and harmony …

⇡ #Earth, goodbye!

The Renaissance will begin as soon as the twelve empires rejoin the alliance, and the population of our flying dream city reaches one hundred and fifty people (not thousands, but people). But before embodying the great prophecy, one must turn to fundamental matters. For a start – to provide the few subjects of our kingdom with the necessary – shelter, food, water and confidence that the flying utopian kingdom will not collapse somewhere in the deserted desert.

Building a residential building is not a tricky business as long as there is wood in the warehouses. But as soon as the supplies of building material run out, it will be tight, because above the clouds finding resources isn’t easy. The few forests that occasionally appear over the horizon come to the rescue: they stopped over the forest, sent workers on airplanes, gathered supplies, flew further. Likewise with oases, water sources; thickets abounding in food; and coal mines, where you can collect “food” for the engines of our empire. And it would also be nice not to forget to build additional hangars and warehouses in order to collect more and, accordingly, store.

An exalted heavenly society does not need earthly little things like railings …

The appetites of a growing population extend beyond basic needs. Yes, and the pomp of our grandiose mission obliges – simple “existence” for citizens is no longer enough, they want to live in a big way! And preferably away from industrial buildings, but next to spiritual buildings, a medical center and in a well-lit area, and even with a tea garden for comfortable leisure. Not all requests can be satisfied at once: there are not enough resources for something, there is no necessary blueprint for other buildings. And when there is a choice between survival and prosperity, the water treatment plant will seem somewhat more significant than the “spirit sanatorium”. For such decisions, the workers, of course, will not raise a riot, but they can abandon the utopia, significantly complicating our life.

In a word, it is always important to maintain a balance during construction, both in the managerial sense and in the engineering sense … The flying policy must be in balance, so when distributing buildings, it is necessary to ensure that there are no distortions on either side. Otherwise – a serious loss of speed and a bad mood of the inhabitants. Nobody wants to live in a rickety state.

By far the most important aspect of any kingdom is the color of the houses. Fortunately, new shades come across often.

There are also restrictions on the city’s allowable take-off weight. The original lift thrusters are capable of holding a limited urban space in the air. Yes, and with the rapid development of the kingdom will begin to move more slowly. Blueprints of more powerful motors still need to be obtained, and then it’s time to turn to the land empires for help.

⇡ #Utopia must be earned …

Twelve kingdoms are evenly distributed on the world map on three conditional continents – four states on each. You can build long-term diplomatic relations and start a great unity of nations in any order. The main thing is to keep in mind some nuances: for example, that in the creepy swamps during the day with fire it is impossible to find coal mines – before sending to the green continent, you must either stock up on fuel for the engines, or be ready to buy it from local merchants at exorbitant prices.

Extracted natural resources can be used to make valuable goods for construction, bargaining and quests. And in ancient temples you can find relics - the only currency for which blueprints are sold

Extracted natural resources can be used to make valuable goods for construction, bargaining and quests. And in ancient temples you can find relics – the only currency for which blueprints are sold

In addition to unprofitable trade in the markets, each empire can offer blueprints for buildings and engines, which will significantly help in the further journey. But our main goal is the conclusion of alliances, and the “earthlings” are ready for it … but only after completing the quest chain. That’s right, no one will just join the great alliance (apparently, the flying city is something very common for them), and to fulfill the prophecy, we will have to work. One needs to fix the crane; others ask to find a harp lost somewhere in a nearby area; and in order to persuade the third, you will have to carry out the ritual kindling of three pillars of fire in the middle of the swamps. So it happens – to achieve high goals you have to do mundane work.

But as soon as the wishes are fulfilled, it will be possible to build a sky port – the main route of communication between us and the allied earthly state. The alliance, by the way, has not only ephemeral benefits in the form of the coming “golden age”, but also very practical bonuses: part of the population from below will want to move to our utopian paradise above the earth, and a friendly state will regularly send us some resources.

Periodically, there are small, almost abandoned settlements on the map. Residents will gladly join us if the general mood in the kingdom is at a high enough level.

From time to time, there are small, almost abandoned settlements on the map. Residents will gladly join us if the general mood in the kingdom is at a high enough level

But at some point, at some point in the earthly kingdom (for me personally – at the tenth), the routine begins to prevail. Tasks from the category of “build / bring / fly the eagle”, although equipped with curious text liners and add volume to the world of Airborne Kingdom, unfortunately, they annoy with their monotony. And the town-planning mechanics that dilute the adventure are no longer entertaining closer to the final stage – after all, everything that is possible has been erected.

But the vital resources begin to be lacking. Engines, like a sprawling population, consume more than we can find and mine. This leads to sharp discontent and an outflow of citizens. But collecting them in the flying kingdom again is already a problem. But these are, of course, typical troubles for the genre – when the later part of the game becomes too cumbersome and protracted. But the journey turned out to be colorful and romantic.

Some details hint: the world of Airborne Kingdom is not an abstract fairy tale, but a hypothetical far, distant future, where modern buildings are considered

***

Airborne Kingdom leaves behind extremely positive emotions. Yes, the construction of the city and the management of infrastructure will not compete with the “serious” representatives of the genre, and in the end, the journey itself is a little boring. But the game still gives something really important – a much-needed soul therapy, an opportunity to spend time creating and meditative relaxing flight to a dream. Yes, and naive, in the best sense, narrative, so confidently strengthening the belief in a brighter tomorrow – what the doctor ordered.

Advantages:

  • fabulous visual style;
  • pleasant and easy gameplay;
  • entertaining study of the world.

Disadvantages:

  • town planning mechanics can seem rustic;
  • the fulfillment of the prophecy closer to the end turns out to be somewhat protracted.

Graphic arts

The visual style of Airborne Kingdom came out colorful and original. It’s just a pleasure to be in the game – in a purely aesthetic sense.

Sound

Calming and atmospheric compositions complement the gameplay appropriately: piano studies and melodies with ethnic motives evoke a dreamy and slightly melancholic mood.

Single player game

A fun, picturesque and enchanting building adventure.

Collective game

Not provided.

General impression

Airborne Kingdom, of course, is not a fundamental work for the ages, but a charming outlet for the suffering.

Rating: 8.0 / 10
