Amazon has begun testing electric vans on San Francisco roads, according to online sources. The vehicles were developed in partnership with Rivian Automotive, which has raised about $ 8 billion in investment since 2019.
It is worth noting that last month Amazon began testing electric vans in Los Angeles, and in total, such vehicles will appear on the roads of 14 American cities during this year. Amazon said San Francisco was one of the first cities to test electric cars from Rivian because of its “great clients, unique landscape and climate“.
“From what we’ve seen, this is one of the fastest commercial electrification programs today, and we’re incredibly proud of it. As we continue to grow and invest in California, we want to do it responsibly, which is why we are delighted that Bay Area customers are seeing these vehicles cruising around their area.“Said Ross Rachey, director of global fleet and Amazon products.
Amazon is one of the largest investors in Rivian, which previously announced its intention to acquire 100,000 electric vehicles from the startup as part of its green vehicle transition program. At this stage, Amazon is testing vans that can travel up to 240 km on a single charge. In addition, Amazon already operates thousands of electric vehicles around the world.
