Apple reflects on smart glasses with a modular design

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has granted Apple a patent for the “Modular System For Head-Mounted Device”.

The document describes smart glasses with a highly customizable configuration. As conceived by the “apple” corporation, users will be able to change the equipment and functionality of the gadget depending on their needs and tasks.

In particular, it is possible to install interchangeable arms. They may include various electronic components – say, a set of sensors to track physical activity and vital signs.

In addition, an additional electronic module can be mounted in the nose bridge region: for example, cameras or a ToF sensor can be included in this unit to obtain information about the depth of the scene.

The possibility of changing the optical elements of glasses is also mentioned. This will allow you to install various types of displays or lenses.

The patent application was filed in April last year, and a document was issued this week – June 25. Information on Apple’s plans to create commercial gadgets with the described design is not yet available.
