The pandemic has shaken up the usual way of life, and games in 2020 have become even more in demand than before. With travel postponed, cinemas and other public places closed, and personal communication minimized, interactive entertainment has become the number one outlet for many, resulting in tangible market growth. But let’s not talk about boring sales figures now – let’s better sum up the results of the readers’ vote, which we arranged at the end of the outgoing year.

⇡ #Readers’ Choice

The poll began on December 16 and lasted exactly one week. There were 52 projects on the list, but on the very first day Cyberpunk 2077 took the lead! Neither various bugs, nor problems with versions for consoles of the previous generation, and the rest of the leapfrog – it seems that none of the hype surrounding the game prevented many from enjoying it. However, a couple of days after the start of voting, when it seemed that everything was already decided, the role-playing action CD Projekt RED had a worthy rival …

The Last of Us Part II, which caused countless controversy and indignation, began to quickly gain supporters and came close to Cybeprunk 2077, and when the vote crossed the equator, bypassed it and began to increase the gap.

The poll is loading …

In the crucible of the battle of the two games that generated the most hype and polarizing opinions this year, The Last of Us Part II became the best according to the readers of 3DNews. In our review, Alexey Likhachev called the work of Naughty Dog “a story that will be talked about for years” and, it seems, was not mistaken. At least you, dear readers, really haven’t forgotten it!

In addition to the struggle for leadership, there are other interesting points in the readers’ poll. For example, Microsoft Flight Simulator firmly took the fifth place – for a hardcore aviation sim, this is really an excellent achievement. I am glad that such niche things resonate with a large number of people. Which, of course, is the merit of Xbox Game Pass for PC – thanks to the appearance of MSFS in the subscription service library, many more users were able to try themselves as virtual pilots than if the game was available only for a solid $ 60. Without a doubt, Asobo Studio’s virtual skies will have a long and happy future.

No less remarkable is the presence of two Half-Life in the top 6 at once. From Alyx and Black Mesa, with all the desire, it is not possible to add the coveted number 3, but each of them achieved its goal. The first showed that there is a wide interest in VR, you just need to back it up with worthy games, and the second demonstrated the power of enthusiasts who can turn the idea of a fan-made remake of the first Half-Life into a really high-quality and finished product for which you are not ashamed to ask for money.

In our team, The Last of Us Part II also won many fans and imposed a hot fight on another contender for the first place. Only in the editorial top, Ellie had to fight not with an implant-studded mercenary from the distant future, but with an inhabitant of the flaming depths of the underworld.

The calculation was carried out in the same way as in the previous years of our voting: five points are awarded for the first place in the personal top, four points for the second, and so on, and then the points are summed up.

According to, Hades is the Game of the Year! Over the past decade, we’ve grown accustomed to counting on Supergiant Games for some really cool stuff – the wonderful Bastion, Transistor, and Pyre have taught us that. But with Hades, everything was not clear from the very beginning: the deal with Haro … I mean, with Epic Games, almost two years in Early Access Tartarus, which was not the case for an American studio before.

But Hades came out and showed you how to make top-notch story-driven roguelikes. The beauty is that no one asked for it or even thought it was possible. As it turned out, the combination of a captivating narrative and a dense atmosphere with sophisticated game mechanics “roguelike” creates an incredibly strong alloy, worthy of the best products of Hephaestus himself. We have already said this in the review and now we will repeat – Olympus is taken!
