Borderlands 3 is another game that has implemented an encouraging trend: to offer owners next-generation upgrades without forcing them to pay for it. In this case, it will definitely please players with 4K TVs.
The developers have tweeted that Borderlands 3 will now run at 4K resolution at 60fps on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X – higher than any consoles where co-op action is available today. Last year, digital lab Eurogamer found that even the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X can only play games up to 3200×1800 at 30fps or 1080p at 60fps. That is, you have to sacrifice either resolution or frame rate.
Gearbox is certainly not promising optimizations to potential owners of the cheaper $ 300 Xbox Series S, as this console is geared towards 1440p, not 4K. Another piece of news is a completely new split screen mode that will allow 3 or 4 people to play on one TV and console. This mode will appear on Xbox Series S, X and both PlayStation 5 models.
Owners of the rapidly aging PS4 or Xbox will also receive a consolation prize: they will soon be able to access the split-screen mode for two players vertically, and not horizontally (as it is implemented now) – apparently to better see the sky.
Other games that will receive free updates for next-gen systems will include The Witcher 3, Destiny 2, Dead by Daylight, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Cyberpunk 2077. But there are projects that offer additional fees for the next generation versions: Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, Control and seemingly NBA 2K21.
