Call of Duty becomes the best-selling franchise in the USA for the 12th consecutive year

Analyst firm NPD Group has published information on game sales in the United States of America for the entire 2020. Shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War topped the rankings, while Call of Duty: Modern Warfare came in second. Collectively, Call of Duty is named the best-selling franchise of the year in the US for the 12th consecutive year.

At the same time, Animal Crossing: New Horizons became the third best-selling game in the United States, even though digital sales are not included in this data (Nintendo does not provide such information). The project brought in the highest dollar sales in one year since 2010 (previous record holder was Wii Fit Plus).

Super Mario 3D All-Stars finished the year in eighth place. Other major Nintendo Switch exclusives also continued to sell well, with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

The Last of Us Part II was the best-selling PlayStation exclusive in 2020 and the sixth best-selling game on the overall chart. In six months of sales, it also became Sony Interactive Entertainment’s third best-selling project in the US to date, behind only 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man and God of War.
