Cyberpunk 2077 Senior Gameplay Designer Pawel Kapala told VG247 that CD Projekt RED is still improving the melee system.
As noted in VG247, the Cyberpunk 2077 assembly tested in June by a representative of the publication suggested “Simple but fun” mechanics of reprisals against opponents at a short distance.
Kapala says CD Projekt RED is aware of the system’s flaws and spends a lot of time fixing them. So, for example, in the studio they are not completely happy with how the enemies react to hits – this aspect continues to be refined.

Despite the system improvements promised by CD Projekt RED, it will be almost impossible to pass Cyberpunk 2077 with only one conditional katana at the ready, according to Kapala.
“If you take a katana with you in a confrontation, for example, with two snipers, no one will indulge you: they will simply shoot you with their sniper rifles. Ultimately, you need to think about the approach. Yes, in theory, running around with a katana is possible, but is it wise to go to a helicopter with a knife? I don’t think “, – says Kapala.
