Cyberpunk 2077 Senior Quest Designer Philipp Weber on my microblog shared a video of the research company JALI Research, which was responsible for lip-syncing with speech in different languages in the game.
As Lead Character CTO Mateusz Poplawski explained in the video, due to the sheer size of the CD Projekt RED project, they had to abandon the manual face animations and find another solution.
The way out of the situation was suggested by the already mentioned JALI Research, whose machine learning technology allows automating the process of creating facial animation in Cyberpunk 2077.
In this case, the matter is not limited to one work of artificial intelligence. For the finished product, JALI Research has yet to go through CD Projekt RED’s animation and film teams, Weber said.
Level Designer Miles Tost also addedthat collaboration with JALI Research made it possible to maintain lip sync with the characters’ speech in all Cyberpunk 2077 localizations with dubbing (there are 10 of them in total), including Russian.
