Recently, Bloomberg reported that Sony has cut its PlayStation 5 plans by 4 million units to about 11 million units this fiscal year due to a shortage of AMD SoCs. At the same time, Bloomberg Intelligence analyst Masahiro Wakasugi made a forecast regarding the prices of the new system.
Microsoft last week announced rather aggressive prices for its two next-generation consoles: Xbox Series S will sell for $ 299 (in Russia – 26,990 ₽), and Xbox Series X – for $ 499 (45,590 ₽). This puts additional pressure on Sony. Pre-orders for the new Xbox models begin on September 22nd.
Sony is expected to announce its launch and pricing plans for the PlayStation 5 during an official video presentation scheduled for Wednesday. According to analyst Bloomberg Intelligence, a full PS5 console can cost as little as $ 449, while a slimmer digital version sells for under $ 400.
At the same time, Bloomberg reported that Nintendo plans to release an updated version of its Switch portable-stationary console in 2021, equipped with improved components and, possibly, support for 4K output. The launch of the platform will be accompanied by a number of major new games, which will increase competition and make it difficult for Sony and Microsoft to attract players to their new systems.
