A non-trivial condition in the form of mercilessly cutting discs successfully brightens up the typical mechanics of passing rooms. The player’s task is not even to survive (it will not work with all the skill), but to hold out as long as possible. It turned out to preserve the integrity of the torso for a certain time – welcome to the new hall, but no – get together and try again!

At the initial stages, it is necessary to survive for some ten to twenty seconds, but the deeper we go into the jagged jungle, the more brutal the conditions become – and the survival time increases, and new tasks are added to open the doors to the next arenas. At a certain moment, for example, goals appear in the spirit of surviving for some time not in a room, but in a whole zone (fortunately, the results are summed up between rooms), to bring the survival time in all zones to a certain minimum, to defeat a certain number of bosses, and , my favorite, to collect a collection of deadly discs – of course, by catching them with a fragile scientist torso.

Mysterious tasks like “feed ???? 4 ????” you can not do it, they do not lead to story rooms. But then how to fall asleep without knowing what is hidden behind the four question marks?

Research is complicated by the features of the levels. If in the initial location you can playfully evade (life hack: sometimes you can just stand in one place and set a record for survival time) from the serrated discs, then in the next, moss-covered technical sector, nuances will already appear. They are expressed in the form of the need to hold out intact in a given area of ​​the room (otherwise the timer will not count precious milliseconds). And in the disgusting refuge of antibodies, the life of a scientist will be burdened by underground jaws, striving to taste a stew of earthlings. And the task, which is unique for the zone, to destroy four mini-bosses in a row without dying in the process (after a victory – you can), will make you sweat a lot.

Things are no easier in locations alarmingly illuminated by red flashing lights, where you often have to survive at random (especially in a room where lighting is not provided at all). But all these are flowers in comparison with the upper sector, where time passes only if the player steps on those blocks where the character’s foot has not yet stepped. And this is featuring the most uncompromising discs in the game. This is where remarkable dexterity of the fingers is required.

But, do not forget, we have a scientific expedition here, where it is necessary to use not only the spinal cord, but also the brain. You won’t have to use it so often, of course, but sometimes it’s still worth thinking about. For example, for the passage of a room where there is an obviously impossible condition in the spirit of “die when there are four disks in the hall”, and there are only two of them and are no longer expected, or it can be halved in 0.0 seconds (this is no joke!). This is where you remember the special abilities …

Skills turn out to be a great help in passing the difficult stages and, of course, add variety to the process of obtaining a degree in discology. A good old jerk will help you safely pass a toothy circle, slowing down time will give you a chance to get out of a dangerous situation, cloning will allow you to stamp a small army of yourself (which, of course, can still die in full force from a light stroke of a saw), increasing the survival time by quantity, but not quality. You can also absorb one blade (for example, the most deadly) or try the dubious tactics of explosive repulsion, throwing the blades away from your person with powerful shock waves. And the most dexterous will like the mirror teleporter, which takes you exactly to the opposite square of the room.

But, in fact, even without using the abilities of the Disc Room, it turns out to be not so difficult – the passage of the main campaign will take a little more than five hours, and a significant part of this time will be taken up by the battle with the final blocker. But if suddenly the game does not work out, then there is a nice option: the difficulty can be customized in detail for personal needs. It seems that the disks are too fast – we can safely reduce their agility, traps interfere with enjoying the process – we reduce the speed of their operation, faced with an impassable test – you can simply unlock the next play zone.

And if, on the contrary, the Disc Room seems painfully soft, then the sharpness of the passage can be added in the same place, twisting the corresponding parameter by two hundred percent, and try to complete the game with a special “additional condition”; or by switching to the “difficult” mode, which will open after passing the main part of the campaign. It was named so, of course, for a reason – here the discs do not stand on ceremony with the player, there are much more of them, and the mode starts from the most difficult zone.

But here’s the problem – it’s unlikely that you really want to go through it. Although all the way up to the top of the Disc Room, it brought a lot of variety to the process, making the only mechanic really fun, on the way back, alas, the excitement of being lumber remains much less. The only really tangible incentive is to get on the leaderboard (or at least break the record set by the developers). But for the rest – neither in the process, nor in the plot – you should not wait for a worthwhile reason to replay.

That does not detract from the merits of the main part! Independent authors have created a great experimental project that can really captivate for hours. By the way, this is several hours more than many …

Advantages:

Disadvantages:

  • the gameplay becomes boring;
  • the plot turned out to be too miniature, awkward and alien to the gameplay, without it the Disc Room would only have won.

Electronic psychedelic melodies successfully set a crazy rhythm for the gameplay.

Single player game

The Disc Room campaign is intense, but fleeting – for an evening or two, no more. But if suddenly it seemed a little, then an additional “difficult” mode is open for connoisseurs of severe tests.

Collective game

Leaderboard is the only online entertainment Disc Room. It’s a pity! It seems that without adding a full-fledged co-op mode, the authors have deprived this world of a truly unique multiplayer entertainment …

General impression

The Disc Room may reach its full potential in four to five hours, but it will be a remarkable and vibrant four to five hours.
