Several employees of the Polish studio Techland in a recent interview with the Wccftech portal shared new details of the long-suffering zombie action Dying Light 2.
Recall that Dying Light 2 was announced back in June 2018, and the game still has no release date. Initially, the release was expected in the spring of 2020, but already in January 2020, the premiere was postponed indefinitely.
According to senior technology programmer at Techland Lukasz Burdka, at least to some extent, the protracted development of Dying Light 2 is due to its C-Engine.
“These changes were necessary to create the detailed world of Dying Light 2. It took our developers time to adapt the technology, the engine department took time to improve the user experience in the new editor “– explained Burdka.
At the same time, Techland is confident that all the difficulties experienced during the implementation of the C Engine will make it possible to realize the ambitions of Dying Light 2: the authors “Have improved almost all major systems” engine.
In particular, thanks to the C Engine, developers will be able to fill the levels “A huge number of objects”, make the city completely seamless, display more infected on the screen and increase the number of simulated AI.
Techland’s Rendering Director Tomasz Szalkowski also assured that, despite the technological advancement of Dying Light 2, the game will still be released on PS4 and Xbox One – team “Doing his best”to ensure the quality of these versions.
On the new consoles, Dying Light 2 will offer three modes of operation: with ray tracing, with performance from 60 fps and with 4K. Shalkovsky did not share the details, but promised that in the edition for PS5, Xbox Series X and S “Try to fit as much as possible”…
In a recent video on Dying Light 2’s development progress, Techland employees promised to start talking about the game in detail already. “Very, very soon”, and also shared a small (literally 13 seconds) slicing of gameplay frames.
Dying Light 2 is announced for PC (Steam), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S. In mid-March Techland admitted that it announced the game too early, even though the project is not in the so-called production hell.
