Institutional investors and large corporations have recently begun to talk more about the possibility of investing in cryptocurrency, and some have moved from words to actions. PwC experts expect that the process of mergers and acquisitions of companies will accelerate in the cryptocurrency market, the segment will be more consolidated and will strengthen its focus on large investors.
Last year, according to statistics from the auditing company PwC, the number of acquisitions and mergers in the cryptocurrency segment increased from 481 to 1,112, and the average transaction amount increased from $ 19.2 to $ 52.7 billion. More than 70% of transactions took place in Severnaya and South America, with deals in EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) more than doubling last year. In the Asia-Pacific region (APAC), 99 deals were concluded in 2019, down from 24 in the past. If in 2019 the APAC and EMEA regions together covered 48% of transactions, then last year their share decreased to 29%.
Last year set a record for the number of transactions and the volume of investors’ funds attracted to the cryptocurrency segment, but PwC representatives have no doubt that this year will exceed it in all respects. Large investors will determine the vector of activity in this market. The central banks of some countries will also begin to think about issuing digital currencies – China is already conducting relevant experiments.
