The Chinese company EHang, the world’s only manufacturer of unmanned aerial taxis, which counts in dozens, has taken a new milestone. The company is reported to have won a competition to conduct demonstration air taxi flights in the suburbs of Paris, beating 150 similar proposals from participants in 25 countries.
Flights of unmanned aerial taxis EHang in the Pontoise area (north-western suburb of Paris) will begin in July 2021. The tests will be overseen by representatives of the French Civil Aviation Authority (DGA) with the support of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and Eurocontrol. In the process of cooperation with regulators, the company expects to work out the entire process chain from parking, takeoff and landing, as well as aspects of operation.
We add that almost all of these issues have been worked out and applied by EHang in China, where it has already deployed a whole range of experienced services from tourist trips to the delivery of goods and services to emergency services.
Test flights of unmanned aerial taxis in the Paris area are aimed at launching a full-fledged service for servicing unmanned aerial passenger flights in air taxis for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris in 2024. The initiative was launched by transport operators Groupe ADP, RATP Group and Choose Paris Region. Companies now want to accelerate the maturation of the new transport ecosystem and achieve the development of a regulatory framework in the Paris region.
