Last week the best-selling game in the UK was the PlayStation 4 exclusive, Ghost of Tsushima. While the action adventure from Sucker Punch Productions and close did not come close to last month’s hit The Last of Us Part II, which is not surprising, however, sales of its boxed versions were 7% higher than last year’s Days Gone (another completely new PlayStation 4 exclusive).
Ghost of Tsushima sold four times that of another new release, Paper Mario: The Origami King for the Nintendo Switch. Yet the comedy adventure reached # 2 on the charts. The game’s first week sales surpassed the launch of the last two members of the Paper Mario series combined – Paper Mario: Color Splash for Wii U and Paper Mario: Sticker Star for 3DS, and Super Mario Paper for Wii, making Paper Mario: The Origami King the most successful launch in the history of the series. In addition, digital sales were not included in this data.
Racing simulator F1 2020 dropped to number three on the chart (sales fell 59%). The fourth position is occupied by Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and the fifth – The Last of Us Part II. All top five games were released in 2020, which is, in fact, a rarity.
