Gigabyte has unveiled the first and so far only NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 series graphics card using a tangential fan cooling system. But it is interesting not only because this is the first card of a new series in this design, but also because this model is a GeForce RTX 3090 with a declared power consumption level of 350 W.
Apparently, the novelty is based on a special version of the printed circuit board. The manufacturer even changed the configuration of the video connectors. The Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3090 TURBO model is equipped with two DisplayPort 1.4a as well as two HDMI 2.1. Recall that this model most often offers only one HDMI connector and three DisplayPort 1.4a.
Additional power supply to the card is provided by two 8-pin connectors, which are usually located on the right side of the card. Since the company does not provide images of the printed circuit board, it is difficult to say whether the auxiliary power connectors are soldered directly into the board itself or whether the manufacturer used extension cords, as with the Gaming and EAGLE series models.
It is likely that Gigabyte’s GeForce RTX 3090 TURBO model does not have factory overclocking, since the name does not have the “OC” suffix. And its presence would seem very doubtful, given the potentially hot nature of the GA102-300 chip with 10496 CUDA cores, as well as the peculiarity of the cooling system itself. The latter has never been distinguished by either silence or its effectiveness. It uses a vapor chamber with direct GPU contact and a long heat sink cooled by a tangential double roller bearing fan.
Nevertheless, not all technical characteristics of the new item are indicated on the manufacturer’s website, so we will not firmly assert that there is no factory overclocking.
An additional interesting detail of the novelty is the presence of the NVLink interface. It is hidden by a plug on one bolt. Recall that NVIDIA excluded its presence in all models of the RTX 30xx series, leaving the interface only for the RTX 3090 model. However, unlike most other cards of this model and even the most reference sample made by the Founders Edition, the new product from Gigabyte will occupy only two expansion slot. In theory, this will simplify the installation of the card and the organization of the SLI configuration.
Recall that the Founders Edition version of the GeForce RTX 3090 graphics card will go on sale on September 24. At the same time, sales of variants performed by third-party manufacturers are likely to begin.
