The new stage of US sanctions has exacerbated the issue of finding ways to supply components for the needs of the Chinese company Huawei Technologies, and at the same time made it possible to study which regions it has relied on in this matter so far. Last year, the Chinese giant increased its purchases of components in Japan by 52%, and Huawei has been operating in Japan since 2005.
The head of Huawei Japan Jeff Wang said this at an industry event, according to the Nikkei Asian Review. Since 2018, the Chinese company has been receiving components necessary for the production of 5G generation telecommunications equipment from Japanese suppliers, and so far sees no reason to end the cooperation. Relations with Japanese partners, as Huawei representatives note, are built for the long term and are stable.
The volume of supplies of Japanese components for the needs of Huawei last year exceeded $ 10 billion, an increase of 52% compared to 2018. The Huawei Japan division was founded in 2005 and as of June of this year employed about 950 people. Although Huawei representatives at the mentioned event did not touch upon the issue of American sanctions, it should be understood that many Japanese components are produced using American technologies, and therefore the Chinese company is unlikely to be able to rely on maintaining cooperation with Japanese suppliers in full after September.
