IPhone sales in China continue to grow after coronavirus pandemic


According to network sources, Apple’s sales in China continued to rise in April. This is partly due to the launch of the more affordable iPhone SE, as well as the gradual opening of stores in the country, whose work was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A sharp decline in sales was recorded at the beginning of the year, when strict quarantine measures were introduced in China. Now, analysts predict a fairly positive dynamics of Apple’s sales growth, as the country is gradually recovering from the epidemic. According to reports, iPhone sales in China fell 60% year on year in February 2020. Apple was forced to close all stores for several weeks, whose work began to resume only in mid-March.

According to CINNO Research, in April this year Apple sold 3.9 million iPhones in China, which is 160% more than in March, when it managed to sell only 1.5 million smartphones. Data from the IDC research company suggests that in April Apple sold about 3 million iPhones in the Middle Kingdom, which is about 30% more than the previous month. It is worth noting that in this case, the sale refers to the number of smartphones that Apple sold to its retail partners.

Apple sells its products in China through several official retailers, one of which is the Almaba-owned Tmall platform. Revenues from the sale of all categories of Apple products through Tmall in April grew by 40% compared to the previous month and amounted to $ 127.6 million. At the same time, revenue from iPhone sales increased by 33% to $ 80 million.

Apple released the iPhone SE (2020) in mid-April, the same month the smartphone went on sale in China. According to CINNO Research, this model accounts for 24% of the total number of iPhones sold in April. According to IDC estimates, the share of iPhone SE (2020) in the reporting period was only 8% of the total number of smartphones delivered.

Analytical data show that, on the whole, a favorable situation has developed in China so that Apple’s business continues to grow.
