Using the Aspire 7 A715-75G model equipped with a 6-core Core i7 chip and GeForce GTX 1650 Ti graphics, you will learn how successful the new generation of “fast” Acer laptops turned out to be.

As I already said, the Aspire 7 series is very popular in our country, and therefore it is not surprising that a large number of different laptop modifications are presented on the Russian market. Notebooks Aspire 7 A715-75G are based on the Intel platform, they are equipped with 4- or 6-core chips Core i5 or i7 of the ninth generation (Coffee Lake). However, there is also the A715-41G series on sale, which uses 4-core AMD Ryzen 3000 processors.

The most sophisticated modification of Aspire 7, relevant at the time of this writing, came to our test. The A715-75G-778N (NH.Q88ER.00B) laptop version is equipped with a 6-core Core i7-9750H processor, GeForce GTX 1650 Ti graphics, 16 GB DDR4-2666 RAM and 1 TB SSD. At the time of writing, in late June, this laptop was sold at a stock and cost 89,990 rubles. For a model with a Core i5-9300H, GeForce GTX 1650 Ti, 8 GB DDR4-2666 and 512 GB SSD they asked 69,340 rubles.

For wireless connection in the Aspire 7 A715-75G, the Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 processor is responsible, which supports IEEE 802.11b / g / n / ac / ax standards with a frequency of 2.4 and 5 GHz and a maximum bandwidth of up to 2.4 Gb / from. And this controller also provides Bluetooth 5.1.

An external power supply unit with a power of 135 W and a mass of 450 g was supplied with the laptop. No additional accessories were found in the box.

⇡ # Appearance and input devices

Appearance of Aspire 7 can be called classic – it has a strict design, devoid of any flashy elements. Here, there was no illumination of the case, as well as various color splashes, as, for example, in laptops of the Predator Helios 300 series.

The case of the test sample is entirely made of plastic – this is where the design technical differences of the Aspire 7 from the previously designated “Traitors” series begin. However, everything is collected quite high quality. Cover with display is playing only with very strong pressure on it, and the area with the keyboard refused to bend at all.

And again: before us is the standard “tag” – with a mass of 2.15 kg the thickness of the laptop is 23.25 mm. As you can see, taking a laptop or a laptop with you to the university will not be difficult. As well as take it to the country, putting it in a backpack with the power supply.

The cover of the Acer Aspire 7 A725-75G quite calmly opens with one hand: hop – and you can get to work. At the same time, the loops allow you to open the screen 180 degrees, and for someone this opportunity will definitely come in handy. As for the hinges themselves, there is no doubt in their reliability, because the lid rotates with effort and is clearly fixed in the position in which you need. However, you can’t check reliability in a couple of weeks.

The manufacturer claims that the display occupies 81.61% of the total cover area. This was achieved by narrowing the frames, the thickness of which on the sides is only 8 mm. The top and bottom of the Aspire 7’s display bezel have decent thickness.

The left side of the laptop is equipped with an RJ-45 connector, an HDMI output and three USB 3.1 Gen1 ports, one of which is C-type. On the right, Aspire 7 found an input for connecting an external power supply unit, USB 2.0 A-type and a 3.5-mm jack for connecting a headset. Well, such a set of interfaces will be enough to comfortably use the device in most situations. For those who work a lot with photography, perhaps, the built-in card reader will not be enough – you will always have to carry an external SD-card reader with you.

The Acer Aspire 7 keyboard is full-sized, with a numeric keypad. The buttons are equipped with a single-level white backlight. The brightness of the backlight is selected so that the engraving on the keys is clearly visible both day and night.

In general, playing and working with text behind the Aspire 7 keyboard turned out to be quite convenient. The key travel is short, but it is physically felt clearly and has a pronounced and clearly audible click. I did not like just the location of the power button and the tiny up / down arrow keys. I would have made the same power button more visible and placed it farther from the digital unit. Once, while working blindly on a calculator, I accidentally turned off the laptop. But both Shift, Backspace and Enter are gigantic, and the left Ctrl, Tab and Fn have a standard area.

I did not have any complaints about the touch panel – it is not as small as in 13- and 14-inch ultrabooks. Fingers slide well on the touchpad, gestures are recognized normally, pressing is accompanied by a distinct and loud click. At the same time, the touchpad is equipped with a fingerprint sensor.

The laptop uses an HD webcam. It is not very suitable for game streaming, but it is suitable for video calls via Skype, Zoom and so on. It is possible to get a good quality image only in bright sunny weather, in all other cases the picture turns out to be plain and rather noisy.

⇡ # Internal design and upgrade options

The laptop is easy to disassemble. The bottom panel can be removed completely without any problems – you just need to unscrew a few screws using a regular Phillips screwdriver.

The cooling system of the central processor and graphic chip in Aspire 7 is common. The video core got more heat pipes than the processor, but in both cases it uses a massive copper radiator and a pair of tangential-type fans located close to each other.

Some users will consider this a drawback, but the motherboard of the hero of this review is equipped with only one M.2 port that supports the installation of SSD form factor 2280. In our case, it has a terabyte SSD Intel SSDPEKNW010T8 – you are unlikely to change it over time . But those who buy a model with a 256-gigabyte drive and eventually want more space will have to do a replacement, and not additionally install an SSD in the laptop motherboard.

And in both SO-DIMM slots, two Samsung DDR4-2666 modules are installed. The total amount of RAM in the laptop is 16 GB, and this will be enough for games for a long time to come.

Game performance was determined using the well-known FRAPS program. With it, we get the rendering time of each frame. Then, using the FRAFS Bench Viewer utility, not only the average FPS, but also the 99th percentile is calculated. The use of the 99th percentile instead of the minimum number of frames per second indicators is due to the desire to clear the results from random bursts of performance that were provoked by reasons not directly related to the operation of the main components of the platform.

The measurement of processor and memory performance was carried out using the following software:

  • Corona 1.3. Testing the speed of rendering using the same renderer. Measures the speed of building a standard BTR scene used to measure performance.
  • WinRAR 5.40. Archiving a folder of 11 GB with different data in RAR5 format and with a maximum compression ratio.
  • Blender 2.80 RC1. Determining the speed of final rendering in one of the popular free packages for creating three-dimensional graphics. The time taken to build the final model from Blender Cycles Benchmark rev4 is measured.
  • x264 FHD Benchmark. Testing the speed of transcoding video to H.264 / AVC format.
  • x265 HD benchmark. Testing the speed of transcoding video to H.265 / HEVC format.
  • CINEBENCH R15 and R20. Measurement of the speed of photorealistic three-dimensional rendering in the animation package CINEMA 4D, CPU test.
  • Fritz 9 Chess Benchmarks. Testing the speed of a popular chess engine.
  • JetStream 1.1 and WebXPRT 3 (browser – Google Chrome). Performance testing when working with Internet applications built using HTML5 and JavaScript algorithms.
  • Adobe Premiere Pro 2019. Rendering a project in 4K resolution.
  • PCMark 10. A comprehensive benchmark that determines the speed level of all components of a laptop.

Testing the display is done using the X-Rite i1Display Pro colorimeter and the HCFR application.

The laptop’s battery life was checked in two modes. The first load option – web surfing – involves opening and closing the tabs of 3DNews.ru, Computeruniverse.ru and Unsplash.com sites one by one with an interval of 30 seconds. For this test, the Google Chrome browser is current at the time of testing the version. In the second mode, .mkv video and Full HD resolutions are played in the built-in Windows player with the snooze function activated. In all cases, the same display brightness was set at 200 cd / m2, and also turned off the keyboard backlight (if any) and sound. When playing a video, the laptop worked in the “airplane” mode.

Aspire 7 uses a 60-Hz IPS-matrix, equipped with anti-reflective coating and supports Full HD resolution. The quality of the display in a laptop can be described as above average – such a screen will be quite enough for work and entertainment. Although some users working with photo and video content, the image quality of the LG LP156WFC-SPD5 may not work.

The screen has a high (for laptops) contrast ratio of 1076: 1. Watching movies on such a laptop is quite comfortable and pleasant, although I would like to see the brightness level higher: the maximum white luminosity is 245 cd / m2and the minimum is 18 cd / m2. The matrix calibration is medium. So, the average deviation on the gray scale is 2.01 with a maximum value of 5.23. The fact is that the color temperature of the screen is slightly higher than the reference 6500 K; gamma with an average value of 2.26 also jumps and in general is slightly higher than the standard 2.2.

The average deviation in the ColorChecker24 test was 5.22 with a maximum of 8.56. The color gamut of the matrix does not meet the sRGB standard – the area of ​​the triangle is noticeably less than the reference value.

Otherwise, the LG LP156WFC-SPD5 is doing well. The viewing angles in all planes are excellent, except that there is a Glow effect, but this sore pursues all IPS-matrices. But there were no highlights at the edges and, most importantly, PWM is not at all brightness levels – you can play on the Acer Aspire 7 for a long time without serious damage to your eyesight.

Sound in Aspire 7 pleased with a good supply of volume, without unwanted rattles, knocks and vibrations. There is bass, and the top, and the middle – when listening to your favorite musical compositions, the hand did not reach for the headphones.

⇡ # CPU and RAM performance

The capabilities of the 6-core Intel Core i7-9750H processor are well known to 3DNews readers. Now there is such a situation on the market that laptops with Core i7-8750H, Core i7-9750H and Core i7-10750H chips are often found on sale – in all three cases we are talking about very similar processors, because they use the same microarchitecture , as well as the same number of threads. As a result, the difference between these processors in various tasks is ensured by the individual features of the laptop. Quite often you can see a situation where the Core i7-9750H is ahead of the Core i7-10750H, although on paper everything should be exactly the opposite.

The PL1 and PL2 levels for the central processor in the Aspire 7 A715-75G are set at 90 and 95 W, respectively. In fact, the power consumption of the Core i5-9750H, soldered in an Acer laptop, does not exceed 56 watts. However, the chip runs at such power for the first few seconds, and then the CPU Package indicator tends to the standard value of 45 Watts for this Coffee Lake. And we see that with such restrictions, the Aspire 7 A715-75G cooler works quite effectively.

Firstly, the 6-core is overheating. When launching Adobe Premiere Pro 2019, the frequency of the Core i7 is kept at an average of 2.67 GHz, but the maximum temperature of the hottest core does not jump out at 90 degrees Celsius, and average temperature indicators make it possible to say that the test model in this kind of tasks turns out to be cold. At the same time, the fans of the Aspire 7 A715-75G cooler do not work at maximum: the noise level measured from a distance of 30 cm was low (for laptops) of 37.2 dBA – this is quiet work by the standards of gaming laptops.

It is noteworthy that the test model does not have additional operating modes – for example, the Predator Sense application is not installed on the laptop. Nevertheless, in the Intel XTU program in Offset mode, it was possible to reduce the CPU voltage by another 0.105 V – the results of such a downvoltage were not long in coming. In the same Adobe Premiere Pro 2019, the system became faster by 8%.

⇡ # Graphics performance

One of the reasons why you are reading this review is that the hero has a review of the graphics card GeForce GTX 1650 Ti – until this moment we have not tested laptops with such a GPU. However, there is no intrigue around the new NVIDIA. The GeForce GTX 1650 Ti is the GeForce GTX 1650 equipped with GDDR6 memory. In the case of the Aspire 7 A715-75G, Micron chips operate at a frequency of 1,500 MHz (12,000 Mbps). The processor itself – TU117 – has not changed. Today it is the youngest representative of the Turing generation, accommodating 16 stream multiprocessors and, consequently, 1024 shader ALUs (32-bit CUDA cores).

In games, as one would expect, the Aspire 7 A715-75G cooling system experiences more difficulties, since the cooler has to cool two chips at once. As a result, two-hour testing in the game “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” showed that the temperature of the GPU reaches a peak value of 69 degrees Celsius, and its frequency varies in the range from 1635 to 1815 MHz. The average frequency of the core GeForce GTX 1650 Ti was 1649 MHz.

The hottest Core i7-9750H core warmed up to 89 degrees Celsius, although the average Core Max was 75 degrees Celsius. Once again, I note that the Aspire 7 cooler does its job well. Средняя частота всех ядер процессора составила 3,9 ГГц.

Уровень шума ноутбука при этом достиг 43,1 дБА — уже шумновато, хотя я встречал множество игровых лэптопов, которые работали заметно громче. Отмечу, что температура в помещении на момент тестирования Aspire 7 составляла 25 градусов Цельсия — в Москву пришла долгожданная летняя жара.

К сожалению, в тестлабе еще не гостили ноутбуки с GeForce GTX 1650, поэтому точно сказать, насколько эффективным окажется применение GDDR6-памяти вместе с TU117 я не могу. Если вы хотите получать больше FPS в современных играх, то придется потратиться на графику уровня GeForce GTX 1660 Ti. Наше тестирование показывает, что ноутбук с этой Turing-видеокартой опережат систему с GeForce GTX 1650 Ti на 42 % в бенчмарке 3DMark Time Spy. В Unigine Superposition тестовая модель набрала 1984 балла в режиме 1080p Extreme.

Очевидно, что мы имеем дело с бюджетным ГП, подходящим, тем не менее, для игр. Aspire 7 A715-75G отлично проявляет себя в нетребовательных проектах: если вы играете в «Доту», «Контру» или что-то похожее, то для достижения стабильных 60 кадров в секунду вам точно будет достаточно ПК с такой графикой. А вот с AAA-проектами у GeForce GTX 1650 Ti случаются относительно неприятные моменты, ведь в тех же Assasin’s Creed: Odyssey, Metro Exodus, Total War: Three Kingdoms, Red Dead Redemption 2 и Shadow of the Tomb Raider наблюдаются заметные просадки фреймрейта. Относительно — потому что в тестовой лаборатории уверены, что хорошую и интересную игру можно пройти и с использованием более низкого качества графики.

Говоря о таком ГП, как GeForce GTX 1650 Ti, важно учитывать, что эти чипы доступны только в версии с 4 Гбайт VRAM. Таблица ниже наглядно показывает, что такого объема видеопамяти оказывается недостаточно для ряда современных игр. Например, отчетливо видны просадки FPS в Battlefield V — от критичного падения FPS лэптоп, кстати, спасает быстрый SSD.

В ноутбук установлен литий-ионный аккумулятор из трех ячеек суммарным зарядом 58,7 Вт⋅ч. При яркости экрана 200 кд/м2 устройство продержалось больше шести часов в режиме просмотра видео и почти шесть часов — в режиме веб-серфинга. Вывод простой: у Aspire 7 A715-75G хорошая автономность — и таким эпитетом я награждаю любой ноутбук с производительными комплектующими, который способен проработать 6+ часов от одного заряда батареи.

Мне понравился протестированный Acer Aspire 7 A715-75G. Перед вами устройство, которое принято называть рабочей лошадкой. Да, здесь используется далеко не самый выдающийся дисплей, но матрицы с таким качеством изображения оказывается вполне достаточно для комфортного просмотра фильмов и полного погружения в различные компьютерные миры. Корпус полностью выполнен из пластика, но к качеству сборки у меня претензий нет. Самое главное, что система охлаждения Aspire 7 A715-75G эффективно справляется с отводом тепла от процессора и графики, делая это не слишком шумно. Наконец, тестовая модель обладает хорошей автономной работой, что может пригодиться тем, кто будет использоваться ноутбук не в качестве заменителя настольного компьютера.

На мой взгляд, протестированную версию Aspire 7 — A715-75G-778N (NH.Q88ER.00B) — рассматривать к покупке стоит тем, кто не только потребляет контент, но и периодически создает его. Если вы только играете на ноутбуке, то можете смело взять модель с 4-ядерным Core i5-9300H или Ryzen. Как показывает наше тестирование, в большинстве игр узким местом является GeForce GTX 1650 Ti — эта графика не всегда обеспечивает комфортный FPS. Следовательно, в ряде ААА-проектов придется снижать качество графики до параметров «Высокое» и «Среднее». Все вышесказанное — ни разу не претензия к Aspire 7 A715-75G. Просто перед покупкой вы должны четко осознавать, за что платите свои кровные.
