Larian Studios spoke about testing Baldur’s Gate 3 – the studio used a bot to find bugs

The Baldur’s Gate 3 developers talked about the game testing methods. Before the game got into the hands of users, Larian Studios used a tester bot called “Super Gamer”. It checks every new build to find vulnerabilities. Writes about this Polygon.

The bot was first created while working on Divinity: Original Sin. It was used to test performance and find major failures. Now the possibilities of “Super Gamer” have expanded – he can test several assemblies at the same time, check dialogs, look for errors in the interface, and much more. This helps reduce the amount of time testers spend playing.

The studio claims that human involvement is still irreplaceable, but if Super Gamer finds major bugs in a game’s build, it won’t fall into the user’s hands until they are fixed.

Baldur’s Gate 3 went into Early Access on October 6. According to Steam, a few hours after the start of sales, the number of users in the game exceeded 74 thousand people. Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke called the start of the game crazy. By comparison, the launch of Divinity: Original Sin 2 in 2016 was followed by 2,000 concurrent players.
