And there is nothing surprising in this: Palit products are widely represented in the Russian market and are in demand. This time we offer a closer look at the Palit GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER JetStream – an advanced version of the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER equipped with a massive cooler and endowed with factory overclocking.

At the time of writing, you can find immediately on sale five models of GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER production Palit. We have already studied the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER DUAL modification – this is the most affordable Palit video card based on the TU106 GPU, and one of the most affordable GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER on the market as a whole. The JetStream version (NE6206ST19P2-1061J), by contrast, is the most advanced in the Palit series of game accelerators. The manufacturer equipped the device with a massive cooler, and overclocked the chip from 1650 to 1830 MHz in Boost mode – factory overclocking at 180 MHz can be considered very significant. On sale, by the way, you will find the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER JetStream LE model (NE6206S019P2-1061J) – this is an exact copy of the hero of today’s review, devoid of the true factory overclocking GPU.

At the time of writing, the cost of the Palit GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER JetStream in Moscow retail ranged from 32 to 43 thousand rubles – a rather large spread. The average value, according to Yandex.Market, was 35,500 rubles, taking into account a slight rounding. The cost of various GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER in Moscow in May varied from 29 to 46 thousand rubles. The previously tested GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER DUAL cost an average of 31,500 rubles. As you can see, at a price the JetStream version belongs to the middle class.

The main competitors of any GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER are the Radeon RX 5700 and Radeon RX 5700 XT. The price of the first in May varied in the range of 24-42 thousand rubles, and the second – in the range of 28-45 thousand rubles. In this article, we compare the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER JetStream (35,000 rubles) with the SAPPHIRE NITRO + RX 5700 XT SE (38,000 rubles).

Nothing really useful and interesting was found in the kit with the video card – however, we have been faced with this trend for more than a year and are not surprised. So all the attention is on the video card.

It so happened that I was holding in my hands all versions of the JetStream series video cards. For the first time this word appeared in the name of the GeForce GTX 600 models back in 2012. Then the flagship accelerators were equipped with three-fan coolers. Starting with the GeForce GTX 970, JetStream accelerators received a cooling system with two impellers, and with it a still recognizable design.

The size of the video card is noteworthy. The manufacturer, as if embarrassed, claims that the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER JetStream cooler occupies 2.7 expansion slots in the case. I focus on this, because such a thickness, for example, will not allow the video card to block the bottom internal connectors of the ASUS ROG MAXIMUS XI GENE or a similar analogue. But if the hero of the review was even a little thicker – and with the connection of some wires to the motherboards of the mATX form factor, problems could arise.

The length of the Jetsrim is 305 mm, but in the case the video card “eats” 15 mm less – these 15 mm fall on the protruding edge of the plug. The casing on the front is partly made of metal, and partly of plastic. The composition of the cooler includes a pair of 11-bladed “Carlsons” with an impeller diameter of 95 mm. The manufacturer claims that the design of each fan uses a 6-pole motor, which allowed to increase the effective area of ​​the blades by 10% and reduce their energy consumption by 30%.

It is worth noting here that the front side of the device is equipped with RGB-backlight, which can be adjusted using the ThunderMaster program.

At the end of the video card, closer to the I / O panel, there is a bi-position BIOS switch. Both chips contain the same video card settings – with only one small difference. Additional firmware is needed both for security and for enabling the semi-passive mode – in it, in fact, is the difference. By default, the lever is set to “1” – in this case, the video card fans always rotate. When switching to the second position, the device operates in a semi-passive mode.

The reverse side of the video card is equipped with a metal backplate. It not only increases the rigidity of the printed circuit board, but also cools the elements of the device, as it is in contact with the PCB in the area of ​​the power converter using thermal pads.

It can be seen that the video card cooler turned out to be longer than the printed circuit board itself – a typical picture in recent times.

The I / O panel has three DisplayPort 1.4 and one HDMI 2.0b. This point must be taken into account if you are still using an old monitor with a DVI input. Just buy the appropriate adapter with the device.

The cooler is removed quite simply – Palit JetStream video cards traditionally have a cross-shaped metal frame, with which the CO is pressed against the chip. The radiator received a two-section design of aluminum fins through which copper heat pipes pass – only four pieces, but their thickness is an impressive 8 mm.

The radiator comes into contact with the chip using a large copper plate with rough grinding. The remaining elements of the video card – memory, chokes and field-effect transistors of the power converter – are also cooled: an aluminum plate with thermal pads adjoins them. In general, the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER JetStream cooler inspires confidence even without any testing.

During assembly, one 6- and one 8-pin power supply cable must be connected to the device. The TDP level of the test model, by the way, is increased from 175 to 215 watts – this is done taking into account the fact that the video card is significantly overclocked at the factory. The same Palit GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER DUAL is content with just one 8-pin connector, for example.

Improved in the Jetstream and the power subsystem, which works according to the scheme 8 + 2. For powering the GPU, the ON Semiconductor NCP81610 PWM controller is responsible, and for the memory is the uPI Semiconductor uP9529P. The VRM zone of the reference GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER Founders Edition, I recall, works according to the 6 + 2 scheme.

Eight gigabytes of on-board memory are implemented due to eight Micron 9EA77D9WCW chips, whose performance is 14,000 Mbit / s per bus contact.

Game performance was determined using the well-known MSI Afterburner program. It allows you to get the rendering time of each frame. The use of the 99th percentile instead of the minimum number of frames per second is due to the desire to clear the results from random bursts of performance that were provoked by reasons not directly related to the operation of the main components of the platform.

So, if you set the switch to position No. 2, then the video card cooler will work in semi-passive mode – this means that the fans will start their rotation only when the GPU temperature exceeds the mark of 60 degrees Celsius. In position No. 1, the Carlsons of the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER JetStream always rotate. In 2D, their frequency is 50 rpm – in this mode, the video card operates silently. The GPU temperature in this case is 29 degrees Celsius, which is 13 degrees less than when working in fully passive mode.

I don’t like the start of rotation of the Jetstream impellers – it is smooth in frequency, but is accompanied by a passing crack. I want to believe that this problem applies exclusively to the test sample. In general, the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER JetStream can be called quiet – you should also consider the increased to 215 W TDP with factory overclocking.

So, in The Witcher, the GPU frequency varies between 1950-2025 MHz. After two hours of load, the fans spun up to ~ 1500 rpm – this is 54% of the maximum frequency. The noise level, measured from a distance of 30 cm, was 36.5 dBA – the cooler is audible, but I will not call it loud. At the same time, the maximum temperature of TU106 was only 67 degrees Celsius. A snapshot of the thermal imager clearly shows that the power converter and memory chips of the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER JetStream do not get very hot – do not forget that the backplane of the video card is in contact with the printed circuit board. Finally, the maximum energy level of the entire stand was 251 watts.

More for reference: if you spin the cooling system fans to the maximum (~ 2700 rpm), then its noise level will increase to uncomfortable 47 dBA, but the maximum GPU heating will decrease to 56 degrees Celsius. In this mode of operation, the GP frequency in The Witcher ceased to fall below 1995 MHz.

The GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER JetStream can be made even quieter. A quick experiment showed that with a decrease in the power limit by only 10%, the heating of the video card decreased by 3 degrees Celsius. Fans began to rotate more slowly – the cooling system began to work more quietly, spinning fans up to ~ 1350 rpm. The indicator of 35.5 dBA I will call close to noiselessness. The frequency of the chip also dropped: it periodically began to drop to the value of 1890 MHz. The maximum power consumption of the 3D card has decreased markedly – to 221 watts at its peak.

In general, it is clear that the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER JetStream cooler is ultra-efficient.


One wants to re-read the famous song from the movie “The White Sun of the Desert”: it’s not lucky for me to disperse – it’s lucky in love! Once again, I come across a device from which, apparently, the manufacturer squeezed the maximum. This can be judged by the technical characteristics themselves: there are not so many versions of GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER with a Boost frequency above 1830 MHz that can be found on sale – and these will be even more expensive models like ASUS ROG STRIX. After increasing the power limit to 116% and raising the voltage to 1.05 V, I managed to squeeze out an additional 60 MHz from the TU106 soldered on the board. Such overclocking led to the fact that the frequency of the chip in The Witcher began to change in the range from 2025 to 2100 MHz.

Overclocked to 15 702 Mbit / s and GDDR6 memory is a good indicator for Micron chips.

At the same time, such a small acceleration led to an increase to 276 watts of maximum power consumption of the stand. The maximum temperature of the GP increased to 70 Celsius, respectively. The average VCore was 1.039 V with a maximum of 1.05 V. The noise increased to 36.8 dBA.

Such manipulations led to an increase in benchmark performance in benchmarks by 3-5%. Well, I don’t see the point in overclocking video cards.

Below on the graphs we compare the performance level of the Palit GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER JetStream with the performance of the SAPPHIRE NITRO + RX 5700 XT SE graphics card. Such a confrontation can be safely called a battle of heavyweights, because both devices are decently dispersed by manufacturers. The frequency of the Jetstim chip, as we have already found out, is kept closer to 2 GHz. The Navi 10 processor used in Nitra boasts the same performance.

It is noticeable that in “light” games, such as WoT, Dota 2 and CS: GO, the devices demonstrate an identical manufacturer, but in fact we got the results of the speed of the central processor Core i9-9900K and memory – FPS ran into them. The conclusion suggests itself: for such games, you can safely take a video card that costs less. But in other games there is a more interesting picture.

Consider the focal resolution for the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER WQHD. Firstly, in 9 games out of 10, using the maximum or close to that graphics quality, we observe a very comfortable frame rate. Below 40 FPS, he sags only in Metro Exodus – some locations in this game are famous for their greed for resources. But even such a result for a single player game can be considered satisfactory. Overclocking, as mentioned earlier, slightly improves the performance of the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER JetStream, without fundamentally changing the situation.

Secondly, in most cases the green card is inferior to the Radeon RX 5700 XT. In the same WQHD resolution, the average difference in the minimum FPS is 8%. If you read the article “Overview of NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER and GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER video cards,” this situation will not surprise you at all. At the same time, one cannot fail to notice that in a number of programs the superiority of the AMD product over NVIDIA is scanty 2-5 FPS.

The price of various versions of the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER and Radeon RX 5700 XT in most cases overlaps, but if we take the average cost of the Palit and SAPPHIRE models under consideration, the “green” accelerator costs a little less – by 6.5%. At the same time, do not forget that the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER supports ray tracing at the hardware level, which AMD cards can not yet offer. However, you shouldn’t have any special illusions on this score: without the use of DLSS smart anti-aliasing, comfortable FPS with the use of high quality DXR in WQHD resolution will not be obtained. You can verify this yourself by studying the comparative testing of video cards in Control, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and so on. In this matter, I completely agree with my colleague Valery Kosikhin: the younger representatives of the GeForce RTX 2000 series in heavy games with DXR are already close to the limit of their capabilities and are simply “locked” in Full HD resolution. All this suggests that by the time of the mass introduction of hybrid rendering (and this era is about to come), GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER-class devices will no longer be relevant.

As a result, we have a rather interesting picture: the choice between the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER and the Radeon RX 5700 XT is not obvious if you are not a supporter of any camp. The first video card is slower, but costs less and allows you to at least somehow try the rays “to taste” in a small set of applications. The second accelerator works faster, but costs more, it is less technological and makes more serious demands on the cooling system. Which adapter to choose is up to you, dear readers. So far, I see, using Steam statistics, that gamers mainly rely on the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER: in April, it was installed in 0.71% of computers running the Valve client; The Radeon RX 5700 XT was used in 0.60% of game builds. Video cards, I remind you, went on sale at about the same time.

The GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER has been on sale for almost a year now, so the capabilities of this video card are well known: it is a graphics adapter for playing in WQHD resolution. The positioning of the device with respect to such models as the Radeon RX 5700 (both the regular version and the XT), the GeForce RTX 2060 and the GeForce RTX 2070 (again, both the regular and the SUPER) is well known.
