NVIDIA has revised its plans to release updated versions of GeForce RTX 30 series video cards with double the memory capacity, VideoCardz reports, citing its sources. Video cards GeForce RTX 3080 with 20 GB of video memory and GeForce RTX 3070 with 16 GB of memory can be presented already in December this year.
The resource reports that the manufacturer ultimately abandoned the release of the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti version, whose GPU was supposed to receive 6144 CUDA cores. The sources did not report the reason for the refusal, but there is an assumption that NVIDIA could face the problem of producing high-quality GA104 crystals with all the working units that are required to produce the Ti-version of the video card.
Thus, the appearance of a truly new version of the GA104 (GA104-400) graphics processor in video cards should not be expected until at least next year, if there is one at all. Instead, NVIDIA will simply introduce a GeForce RTX 3070 model with twice the video memory. Whereas the original version received 8GB of GDDR6 memory, the new version will be equipped with 16GB of the same standard. According to sources, the board of this model uses the PG142 SKU 05 marking.
The updated GeForce RTX 3080 will also most likely differ only in doubled memory capacity. Instead of 10 GB GDDR6X, the new product will use 20 GB of memory of the same type. Perhaps the memory bus will change along with this, although the card will feel good with the same 320 bits.
Meanwhile, it is reported that the announcement of the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti model, which was supposedly originally scheduled for October, was shifted to mid-November. Below you can find a list of all current, as well as rumored models of GeForce RTX 30 series video cards.
According to informants VideoCardzNVIDIA wants to release graphics cards with increased video memory in response to the new AMD Radeon RX 6000 graphics solutions. Sources say that based on the AMD Navi 21 graphics chip, there will be three models of cards equipped with 16 GB of video memory.
The resource clarified that it shared this information as soon as it became available. Therefore, the final release dates for the solutions listed above may still change.
