OPPO is preparing an affordable smartphone on the new 5G-processor MediaTek Dimensity 800U

Last month, OPPO quietly launched the A72 5G smartphone, which is the first device to be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 720 5G chipset. Yesterday, the chipmaker introduced the Dimensity 800U processor, and today there are rumors on the Web that OPPO will release a smartphone based on the new chip before the end of this month, although it is likely that it will be delayed until early September.

The source of the rumors was the Weibo account of Really Asen Jun. The insider claims that the OPPO smartphone with the Dimensity 800U processor will receive an OLED screen with a round notch, 4300 mAh battery and 65-W fast charging. The device will weigh less than 180 grams and its thickness will not exceed 8.5 mm.

These rumors look very plausible given the fact that the website of the Chinese regulator TENAA recently “lit up” the OPPO PEAM00 / PEAT00 smartphone, which is equipped with a 6.43-inch OLED panel with a round cutout in the upper left corner. The unnamed processor has eight cores and boasts a clock speed of 2 GHz. Note that Dimensity 800U has part of the cores running at just 2 GHz, and the other part at 2.4 GHz.

The amount of RAM of the smartphone is 8 GB, and the storage capacity is 256 GB. Memory expansion with microSD cards is not provided. The device will boast a triple main camera with a 48-megapixel main sensor and a 32-megapixel front camera. The only strange thing is that the specified smartphone has a battery of only 2200 mAh. Fast 65-watt charging is supported. Weight is 169 grams, and its dimensions are 160.5 x 73.9 x 7.85 mm. The device is expected to belong to the Reno 4 series.

The OPPO Reno 4 series debuted in June and includes the Reno 4 5G and Reno 4 Pro 5G smartphones. The certified device has a simpler filling than the above smartphones and may come out under the name OPPO Reno 4 Youth.
