Crisis preferences

Everyone agrees that the pandemic has had a huge impact on the global economy. However, it is much more interesting to figure out exactly how customer preferences have changed in connection with the current crisis, what
new tasks have appeared for customers and how BI tools can help in solving them.

Andrey PIVOVAROV (Oracle) notes an increase in requests for revision of data processing and analysis strategy. This applies not only to BI tools, but also to the approach to building such systems in general: and
storage, and ETL, and analysis of streaming data, and the implementation of IoT systems. “Many companies have realized that systems are needed to process data and retrieve faster and better quality data.
valuable information for business, – explains Mr. Pivovarov. “As a result, the demand for analytics and data warehouses has grown significantly compared to the pre-crisis period.”

Anton SPIRIN (Technoserv Consulting) believes that the current situation did not have a particular impact on the activities of his company, except that in connection with the transition to a remote
the concept of using BI tools on personal mobile devices has significantly advanced to the masses.

Andrey SMERECHUK (OCS Distribution) notes that employees of almost all departments have become much more active in applying for the development of analytics and reporting. After trying new
tool, they begin to find new niches for themselves using BI-tools. “This is not only a replacement for reports from tables in Excel, but also additional analytics in conjunction with a mass of new data,
which were previously inaccessible to them: for example, historical data about partners, control of current work processes, analysis of activities and workload, ”explains Mr. Smerechuk.

Svetlana VRONSKAYA (KORUS Consulting Group of Companies) emphasizes that the economic situation has seriously shaken due to the coronavirus, which will become the main obstacle to full development
BI market coming soon. However, the most advanced customers of the company, on the contrary, are trying to quickly launch projects to create analytical reporting, which will allow them to quickly see everything
what is happening in the company and promptly, with an accuracy of hours, to respond to emerging problems.

Sergey KULIKOVSKY (“Polymatika”) notes that during the period of active growth in the number of cases, the implementation time was significantly reduced – the results had to be provided promptly and
from many sources at once. Business models have also changed: it was not always possible to quickly buy a license due to bureaucratic restrictions, so many switched to leasing
platforms for solving short-term problems.

Among the non-standard tasks, Mr. Kulikovsky calls the elaboration of the topic of monitoring employees working remotely, but so far it has not been continued in the form of a project. “Now we return to
“Dockyard” activities, for example, we are working on placing Polymatica in the clouds – we already have agreements with IBS DataFort and IT-Grad, ”he says.

Yulia KUDRYAVTSEVA (“Forsyth”) noticed that the manufacturing sector has become more active in the trend towards the introduction of AI and machine learning, as well as the use of Internet technologies
of things”. We are talking about fundamental changes in business processes in terms of both technology and management. In the future, we can talk about the possibility of automated control
production based on data. Ms. Kudryavtseva is confident that the introduction of such technologies requires serious investments, but the digitalization process has been launched and we can see the results in the foreseeable

Maxim OZEROV (Navicon) notes that customers are becoming more picky about the cost and timing of BI solutions. In addition, projects are increasingly being launched using agile methodologies to
provide quick adjustment of work to changing conditions.

Place in portfolio

For all participants in our discussion, business intelligence is the main or one of the main lines of business. Nevertheless, in the end, we nevertheless decided to clarify what place in the portfolio
the solutions they offer are occupied by BI-tools and which products and services seem to be the most promising.

Anton SPIRIN (Technoserv Consulting) said that historically, the company’s BI projects are mainly part of complex projects for the implementation of CRM, ERP platforms or custom projects
development of solutions for customers.

Svetlana VRONSKAYA (KORUS Consulting Group of Companies) emphasized that the direction of data analysis in her company is one of the most dynamic – an average annual growth of 35-40%. For several years now, KORUS
Consulting ”is included in the list of the largest BI suppliers in Russia.

In its turn, Andrey PIVOVAROV (Oracle) noted that analytics for his company is part of its DNA, because Oracle is a recognized world leader in data management solutions and does
significant investment in BI tools. Almost all of its products include elements or entire analytical modules. Among them are modules for Oracle Analytics for Oracle Cloud applications
Applications: Oracle Analytcis for Cloud HCM, Enterprise Analytics for Fusion ERP, etc. And one of the most important and fastest growing products now is Oracle Autonomous Database (an autonomous database
data) – heavily based on analytics and machine learning. The latter is used to monitor and respond to the state of the database, to automatically optimize queries and
many other processes that have traditionally required the involvement of a database administrator autonomously.

In terms of business intelligence itself, Gartner ranks Oracle as one of the visionaries in the 2020 Magic Quadrant. And Forrester positions Oracle Analytics as a leader in 2019 report
Industry Enterprise BI Platforms (Vendor-Managed). This platform (the new brand of Oracle Business Intelligence Platform) enables customers to gain new knowledge and adopt faster and
informed business decisions, offering flexible visual analytics and self-service tools, interactive dashboards, powerful operational reporting, timely alerts,
content and metadata search, strategy management, native access to big data sources, sophisticated in-memory computing, and streamlined systems management.

AND Yulia KUDRYAVTSEVA (Forsyth), emphasizing that her company focuses on creating solutions for data management, cited the example of the flagship development “Foresight. Analytical
platform”. This solution not only provides enterprises and organizations with tools for processing and analyzing data, but allows you to create a single base for digital transformation. “We include in
their developments the entire arsenal of relevant technologies: machine learning, big data, AI algorithms, building predictive and optimization models, increasing productivity thanks to
use of In-Memory, ”explained Ms. Kudryavtseva.

Sergey KULIKOVSKY (“Polymatika”) He called BI solutions the main specialization of his company. “Polymatica Dashboards Maker Released in 2020 Illustrating Our Faith
to the potential of this market, ”he added. At the same time, Polimatika plans to develop the direction of machine learning, but not in the form of custom developments. According to Mr. Kulikovsky, his mission
company – in providing the customer with a full range of tools for descriptive, diagnostic and predictive analytics so that he can constantly create new competitive advantages in
based on their data.

According to Maxim OZEROV (Navicon), BI solutions occupy an essential place in the Navicon portfolio. Solutions for pharmaceutical companies and consumer goods manufacturers –
Navicon Pharma BI and FMCG BI have long established themselves in the market. In addition, over the past year, Navicon has also brought to the market complex BI solutions for working with narrower tasks: Sales Force
Efficiency (SFE) BI to improve the impact of field staff and Finance BI to work with financial analytics. Mr. Ozerov emphasizes that all decisions imply a high level of
“Box-like” with options for customization. Solutions can be deployed both on-premises and in the cloud.

“We also became the first Russian partner of ThoughtSpot,” he says. Their system reflects all the development trends of the modern BI-systems market: the ability to analyze terabyte
volumes of data on numerous tables in real time; free study by users of all data available in the storage, without predefined drill down paths; search using
natural language; the ability for users to independently receive answers to questions with any available degree of detail, as well as automatically generated insights.

In conclusion Andrey SMERECHUK (OCS Distribution) recalled that he was not responding as a representative of one of the solution providers, but as a customer: “Reporting on the Power BI platform already covers
activities of most of the OCS divisions. Currently, over 150 reports are in use, and their number is growing every day. ” At the same time, it should be understood that BI tools are not
the only direction of analytics development. OCS is actively working in the field of data management system development, description and analysis of business processes, which together promises to give
maximum effect and has already become part of the company’s digital transformation process.
