One of the Twitter users published and then immediately removed a photo of the printed circuit board of an unknown video card. As the official announcement of new Radeon RX 6000 series graphics accelerators approaches, portal VideoCardz made the assumption that the photo may show an engineering sample of one of the non-standard versions of the Radeon RX 6800XT (Navi 21 XT) or RX 6800 (Navi 21 XL).
The resource supports its assumption with earlier information that the flagship model Radeon RX 6900XT (Navi 21 XTX) will be exclusive to AMD for some time. In other words, a special version of the reference board can be used to produce it. And in the photo – a clearly non-reference design.
We’d like to add that the upper right part of the photo hints that the board may belong to one of the models from Sapphire. We could already see the “cut off” edge of the printed circuit board near the power contacts on some non-reference models of video cards from this manufacturer of the Nitro + series.
It can also be noted that the board has eight pads for memory modules. However, the modules themselves are missing. It seems that they have not yet been installed on the board, and therefore their seats are sealed with thermal tape. Although, perhaps, it’s all about the angle and quality of the photo itself.
Unfortunately, the source of the photo was hidden by the GPU, so nothing can be said about it yet. However, you can notice the presence of a reinforced power subsystem for the graphics processor and memory with more than 10 phases. It is impossible to determine more precisely, since the components are hidden by the base heatsinks. It should also be added that the PCB has two 8-pin connectors for additional power. We saw the exact same power configuration in one of the reference models of the Radeon RX 6000 series, the design of which was shown by AMD itself last month.
Recall that the announcement of the series of video cards Radeon RX 6000 will take place on October 28, that is, next week. It is assumed that the series at the start will include three models based on the GPU Navi 21: Radeon RX 6900 XT, Radeon RX 6800 XT and Radeon RX 6800. According to the latest rumors, the younger versions of the Radeon RX 6700 XT and Radeon RX 6700 with a Navi 22 chip will be presented early next year.
