IFixit specialists dissected a powerful smartphone Huawei Mate 40 Pro, the official presentation of which took place in October of the outgoing year. Looking ahead, let’s say that the flagship device cannot boast a high maintainability rating.
Let’s briefly recall the main characteristics of the device. It is based on a proprietary Kirin 9000 processor with a Mali-G78 MP24 graphics accelerator and an integrated 5G modem. The 6.76-inch OLED screen has a resolution of 2772 × 1344 pixels and a refresh rate of 90 Hz.
The smartphone carries on board 8 GB of RAM, a flash drive with a capacity of 256 GB, as well as a camera with sensors for 50, 20 and 12 million pixels and a ToF sensor for obtaining information about the depth of the scene.
An autopsy showed that the device used a Chengyan K3LK3K3 LPDDR5 SDRAM memory chip that had never been seen before. The flash drive is manufactured by Samsung. The equipment includes a HiSilicon Hi1105 Wi-Fi 6 wireless adapter.
The design advantages are the use of standard fasteners and the modularity of many components. In addition, the replacement of the battery is not particularly difficult.
On the other hand, a very strong adhesive is used to secure the display. Replacing the screen requires a lot of work, and the glass in the front and back of the device increases the risk of damage from drops and impacts. Overall, the maintainability of the Mate 40 Pro is rated four out of ten.
