Last week, information appeared that S7 was negotiating with one of the subsidiaries of Rosatom state corporation on the sale of the Sea Launch rocket and space complex. As reported now, the deal is likely to fail.
Recall that now the owner of the Sea Launch is S7. The complex includes the Odyssey launch platform and the Sea Launch Commander assembly and command ship. In the first quarter of this year, they were relocated from the United States to Russia.
The other day it became known that S7 wants to sell Sea Launch, because it does not have the financial ability to repair and reconstruct the cosmodrome, as well as to form the necessary coastal infrastructure. The potential buyer was called Rosatom.
As RIA Novosti now reports, Rosatom’s structures do not see the need to purchase Sea Launch. It is said, in particular, that the state corporation does not have a significant need for space launches. In addition, Rosatom lacks competencies to attract customers to launches.
Other reasons are mentioned. This is a high competition in the launch services market, as well as a decrease in the cost of launching launch vehicles in the commercial market in connection with the activities of SpaceX.
