The State Corporation Roscosmos has made an official statement regarding the participation of the Russian Federation in the International Space Station (ISS) project. It is reported that Russia will soon begin to discuss the fate of the orbital complex with foreign partners.
Today in a number of media outlets there was information that RSC Energia proposed to refuse to participate in the ISS project after 2025. This is due to the fact that by that time the orbital complex may be overwhelmed by a wave of disruptions.
It was reported that RSC Energia proposes to focus on the development of the Russian Orbital Service Station (ROSS) project. Its creation is planned to begin after the completion of the ISS operation.
“Roskosmos is really looking forward to proposals and an engineering note from RSC Energia on the new multifunctional orbital station. These projects will first be considered at the Roskosmos Scientific and Technical Council, and then reported to the Government. The question of the ISS operating time depends on both technical and political issues discussed with partners. One way or another, it is planned to begin consultations with NASA and other partners on these topics early next year.“, – said in a statement by Roscosmos.
We add that in April next year, Russia intends to introduce a multifunctional laboratory module (MLM) “Science” into the ISS. In the fall of 2021, the launch of the Prichal nodal module into orbit is scheduled. After that, in 2024, a scientific and energy module (SEM) will go to the ISS.
