Samsung designs Exynos 981 processor for mid-range smartphones

Samsung, according to the resource MySmartPrice, may soon introduce a new mobile processor for smartphones in the mid-range. The product is likely to provide support for fifth generation (5G) cellular communications.

A reference to a chip with the designation Exynos 981 was found on the website of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG). The published document is dated October 30 this year.

Unfortunately, there are few details about the upcoming processor. It only says that the Exynos 981 platform provides support for Bluetooth 5.2 wireless communication. This means that the chip will turn out to be a very modern solution.

Apparently, Exynos 981 will become the closest relative of the Exynos 980 product. The latter contains eight processing cores (two ARM Cortex-A77 cores with a frequency of up to 2.2 GHz and six ARM Cortex-A55 cores with a frequency of up to 1.8 GHz), a graphics unit Mali-G76 MP5, neuroprocessor module and integrated 5G modem with data rates up to 2.55Gbps.

Exynos 981 certification by the Bluetooth SIG means that the official presentation of the new product is just around the corner. The first smartphones on this platform may go on sale at the end of this year or early next year.
