Samsung today announced that it will not be hosting its annual developer conference in 2020. The company noted that this decision was made in connection with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Samsung has focused on putting health and safety first.
At the developer conference, Samsung usually showcases new features of the proprietary voice assistant Bixby, updated smart home products and much more. It was during the Samsung Developer Conference that the company first demonstrated its proprietary One UI. However, despite the event being canceled, Samsung said it will keep developers updated on updates to its platforms through the website and community forums.
While the event’s cancellation did not come as a surprise, rumor has it that it’s not just the COVID-19 pandemic. According to rumors, Samsung is facing stagnation in promoting its products like Bixby, so it has nothing to brag about at this year’s conference. Additionally, there are speculations that Google is trying to force the Korean tech giant to ditch its software solutions like Bixby and the Galaxy Store in favor of Google Assistant and Google Play.
