Today at the Galaxy Unpacked event, the South Korean company Samsung unveiled a trio of flagship smartphones – the base Galaxy S21, the larger Galaxy S21 + and the most advanced S21 Ultra. All three phones have a refreshed design, great cameras, support for 5G networks and live AMOLED screens. More details can be found in our special material.
One of the most interesting innovations in recent smartphones is the Samsung Exynos 2100 chipset, which will be equipped with international versions of phones. Devices for the US and South Korean markets will receive Qualcomm Snapdragon 888. According to Samsung, its new chipset consumes 20% compared to its predecessor, and of course it has become much more powerful. The software platform is Android 11 with a proprietary add-on One UI 3.0.
Galaxy S21 and S21 + received 6.2- and 6.7-inch AMOLED-matrices with Full HD + resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate. But the Galaxy S21 Ultra received a 6.8-inch panel with QHD resolution and support for the proprietary S-Pen stylus, which previously only devices from the Galaxy Note family could boast. Unfortunately, the device lacks a dedicated pen storage compartment. In addition, the stylus will not be included in the package. And this can even be considered a plus: users who need a pen will be able to purchase it along with a special case that allows you to charge the S-Pen from a smartphone. Those who want an uncompromising flagship, but do not need a stylus, will not be forced to pay extra for an unnecessary accessory. The screens of all models are covered with protective Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.
In terms of cameras, this year the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21 + received the same set of sensors. The main camera of phones consists of three sensors. The main sensor has a resolution of 12 megapixels, it is complemented by a 12 megapixel sensor with ultra wide-angle optics, as well as a 64 megapixel telephoto camera. The front camera is represented by a 10 megapixel module. Supports shooting photo format 12-bit RAW plus 8K video shooting. Samsung points to improved Space Zoom, which allows you to zoom in 30 times.
The Galaxy S21 Ultra is very different from its younger brothers in this respect. The phone received a more advanced rear camera with a main 108-megapixel sensor. It is complemented by an ultra-wide-angle 12-megapixel module and two telephoto modules with a resolution of 10 megapixels and various apertures, f / 2.4 and f / 4.9. The front camera is also improved over the base Galaxy S21. She received a resolution of 40 megapixels. The manufacturer indicates that each of the cameras of this smartphone supports 4K 60 FPS video recording, and also draws attention to the improved night mode, which allows you to get good pictures even in extreme low light conditions.
Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21 + got 8 GB of RAM each. There are two options for your flash drive capacity: 128GB or 256GB. The Galaxy S21 Ultra has 12GB of RAM. The amount of flash memory here can be 128, 256 or 512 GB.
Following Apple’s example, Samsung will no longer bundle its flagship smartphones with charging adapters, limiting itself to USB Type-C cables. In terms of batteries, the Galaxy S21 has a 4000mAh battery, while the S21 + has a 4800mAh battery. The older Galaxy S21 Ultra is equipped with a 5000 mAh battery. You can use both wireless adapters and a USB Type-C cable for charging.
The design of smartphones should be noted separately. This year it is fundamentally different from what Samsung has offered in the past few years. The main camera block deserves special attention, smoothly flowing into the side of the smartphone. The base S21 will be available in gray, white, pink and purple. For the S21 +, the same color options are available, with the exception of pink. The Galaxy S21 Ultra is only available in two colors: black and silver.
For the base Samsung Galaxy S21, buyers will have to pay $ 799. The larger S21 + costs $ 999. Note that in both cases it is $ 200 cheaper than the S20 and S20 + prices at the start of sales. The Galaxy S21 Ultra will retail for $ 1,119, a whopping $ 280 less than its predecessor.
