Sberbank has signed binding documents on investments in the development and acquisition of a controlling stake in 2GIS. The bank’s intention to acquire a mapping service became known in August last year.
The share of Sberbank will be 72%, the share of O2O Holding (a subsidiary of Sberbank and Mail.ru Group) is 3%, the founders and management will retain 25% in the company. Baring Vostok and RTP Global Investment Funds
completely withdraw from the capital of 2GIS. The shares of these companies are estimated at 14.3 billion rubles in total – the bank will buy them. The board of directors will include representatives of Sberbank and the founders of the service. Closing
transactions are expected in the III quarter of 2020, after receiving antitrust approval, however, cooperation with the company, work on synergies, begins now. Sberbank and 2GIS already
started implementing joint initiatives to promote ecosystem products and services, as well as introducing new features in 2GIS applications. 2GIS is going to become a marketplace for large
companies and local businesses that do not have their own sites. At the same time, integration with 2GIS will accelerate the development of projects of Sberbank – Sberlogistics, Sbermarket, CityMobile, Delivery Club, SberFood and
Scooter. 2GIS services will be integrated with banking applications for individuals and corporate clients. As a result, the platform will allow users not only to receive information about the object and its
location on the map, but also choose the best and most convenient way to travel using public, personal and rental vehicles (car sharing, bicycles, scooters, etc.), order and
pay it. Recall that 2GIS is one of the ten most expensive companies in Runet according to Forbes (2020). The monthly audience of the service reaches 50 million people. Service covers 486
cities in 11 countries. It is available free of charge in mobile applications and on 2gis.ru website. 2GIS is the main independent competitor of Google Maps and Yandex Maps services in Russia.
