For the floating cosmodrome Sea Launch, as reported by RIA Novosti, several possible permanent bases are being considered. One of them is in the area of the bridge to the Russky Island in Vladivostok.
Sea Launch is a unique launch complex developed back in the early 1990s. The cosmodrome provides the most favorable conditions for launching carrier rockets from the equatorial zone, where the Earth’s rotation speed can be used most effectively. The current owner of the complex is the S7 Group.
The key components of Sea Launch are the Sea Launch Commander assembly and command ship and the Odyssey launch platform. At the beginning of this year, they were delivered from the United States to Russia, and now the question of the further fate of the project, including the location of the base, is being decided.
“In the Far East, S7 offered the opportunity to consider five or six bays in which the complex could be installed on a permanent basis. One of the main ones is Ulysses Bay near the bridge to Russky Island“, – informed persons told.
It is also noted that missile launches using “Sea Launch” in the future can be carried out near the Kuril Islands – subject to launches into sun-synchronous or polar orbits.
