Smartphone market in EMEA expects biggest drop in history

International Data Corporation (IDC) predicts that the smartphone market in the EMEA region (Europe, including Russia, the Middle East and Africa) in the current quarter will collapse by almost a quarter in monetary terms. This will be the most serious reduction in sales in the history of statistics collection.

The reason for the observed picture is the spread of coronavirus, due to which communication shops around the world have closed, and consumers are forced to stay at home in conditions of self-isolation.

It is noted that according to the results of the second quarter of 2020, sales of smartphones in the EMEA market will amount to less than $ 19 billion in monetary terms. In pieces, deliveries will be at the level of 63 million units – this will be the smallest indicator in five years.

According to analysts, the Russian market will suffer the most. In our country, in addition to the coronavirus, the deteriorating economic situation negatively affected the sale of smart cell phones.

IDC experts believe that the decline in the smartphone market in the EMEA region will continue in the third quarter. According to the results of 2020, in general, deliveries are expected at the level of 316.9 million units. The share of Android-devices will be 85.9%, devices running iOS – 14.1%.
