My colleague Viktor Zaikovsky already wrote about Honor View 30 and View 30 Pro from an event dedicated to their announcement in China – on the home market they are called Honor V30 / V30 Pro and at the time of writing that material we did not even know whether they would even marry the limits of the Middle Kingdom. The situation with the blocked Google Mobile Services as of October 2019 seemed much more critical than now. But Huawei, as it turned out, really holds a good punch and develops its store and related applications at a pace to launch Android smartphones on markets outside of China, but without Google with some hope of success. So the Honor View 30 Pro still came out in Russia.

Came out alone, without his fellow V30, sold in China. This is an unusually logical solution – taking into account the minimal differences that can be found only with a long verification of the characteristics under the magnifying glass (the main ones are a slightly lower processor frequency and slightly different rear cameras included in the triple module). So, speaking of the View 30 Pro, you need to keep in mind that it is the only one, and the “non-pro” does not exist. Nevertheless, the positioning of the smartphone raises many questions – especially in light of the imminent appearance of the Honor 30/30 Pro. But at the time of this writing, this is one of the most affordable smartphones with flagship features and a 5G modem – another question is how long its life cycle will be and how it will be combined in the market not only with the upcoming Honor flagships, but also with the Huawei P40 / P40 Pro. However, these are eternal questions that arise in relation to the activities of two heads of one Chinese hydra corporation every year. Here we talk exclusively about the advantages and disadvantages of a particular smartphone, without focusing on the narrowness of the niche that it occupies.

Externally, the Honor View 30 Pro, presented, I recall, back in October last year, prophesied all the key trends of 2020. Here is the front-end inscribed on the surface of the screen – in this case double, in the manner of the Samsung Galaxy S10 +; and a large camera unit — a black rectangle that includes optics, sensors, and a flash; Well, the frosted glass on the back. Right now, the Honor View 30 Pro looks like one of many, but actually it is a prophetic device in the design plan, and we must pay tribute to its creators – they were able to anticipate the key trends of our time.

True, he also has an original solution: the fingerprint scanner did not hide under the surface of the screen, as is now customary, but was located on the right side – in the power key. It is slightly recessed into the case, it is convenient and even pleasant to use, but the surface area of ​​the scanner itself is small, so some malfunctions in the recognition of prints are inevitable. This applies not only to the View 30 Pro, but to all smartphones with a side scanner – this solution has recently received a second wind, and there are more and more devices with it after a certain break.

The front panel of the Honor View 30 Pro lacks curved edges – this is perhaps the key external feature that separates this smartphone from flagship devices, including the authorship of Huawei / Honor. As a result, it is a little less convenient to hold in your hand – the panel is very large, wide, the palm may even get tired if you mess around with the gadget for a long time. The frames here are not so tiny (the screen occupies 84.9% of the front surface, which is far from record levels), the display is rather narrow, but still 6.57 inches is a lot. The smartphone is large and somewhat bulky – you can get used to it as much as you like, but a fact is a fact.

The back panel is just equipped with curved edges, which slightly brightens the impression. But the main advantage of the Honor View 30 Pro compared to its predecessor (View 20) is frosted, not mirrored glass, which is why the smartphone does not slide in your hand or on any surface. Yes, I still want to pack it for reliability in a complete (or separately purchased designer) case, but this is not so critical. No certification for any dust or moisture protection standard is provided.

With the functional elements of the View 30 Pro, this is the usual way, with the exception of the scanner key itself. There is no mini-jack, a long volume key is on the right side, USB Type-C is on the bottom. Anyone who has dealt with Android smartphones in recent years will be in their element.

I started writing about user identification systems already above – the capacitive sensor in the side button is responsible for fingerprint recognition. But there is also a face recognition system – using the front camera, without additional sensors.

We have written so much about the situation with Google Mobile Services that each time the hand does not rise to do it yet. But we have to. Honor View 30 Pro comes with the Android 10 operating system, but “stripped down”, without Google services (including without the Google Play app store and without the ability to create a Google account in the shell). Today this is not a sentence for a smartphone: in the AppGallery store you can find many familiar applications – both from Russian developers (there is a complete ecosystem of Yandex and Mail), and from Western ones – for example, Telegram recently launched in AppGallery. Another thing is that a lot, but not all – for example, WhatsApp or Facebook with Instagram is not there. To install the missing, you need to use third-party services like APK Pure or AppGo. You can also install apk files just from the Internet. Thus, you can use almost any application, including a significant part of the “Google” (Chrome, “Maps”). But Youtube, GMail and Google Pay will not work – they will have to look for an alternative. Also, some games will not work – those that turn to Google Play for additional materials or to synchronize with a Google account. Until recently, the most painful thing was the inability to pay smartphones without GMS in contactless terminals, but since the beginning of April, the Pay Wallet service has been launched in Russia, which completely fills this gap.

The shell used is Magic UI 3.1 – the EMUI version for smartphones sold under the Honor brand. It differs from the “original” in a slightly different set of pre-installed programs and a slightly modified visual style. But in general, the experience with her is identical to working with EMUI 10.

One of the boundaries dividing Honor and Huawei has been and remains display matrices. The simpler Honor status has always been emphasized by the use of LCD screens even in local flagships – with the exception of the “home” Magic series (we wrote about Honor Magic2). Honor View 30 Pro is no exception. Despite the complete “packing” in relation to other characteristics, an IPS screen is installed here, which is a rarity today for a smartphone at a price of 35-40 thousand rubles. An exception to the rule if it is not Google Pixel 3a or iPhone SE.

If in more detail, then this is a display with a diagonal of 6.57 inches, a 20: 9 format and a resolution of 2400 × 1080 pixels. Density – 400 ppi. Last year’s screen status is emphasized by the lack of an operating mode with an increased frequency – there is simply no such option in the menu, the refresh rate will always be 60 Hz. The panel itself is of high quality, with good viewing angles and an excellent oleophobic coating.

The measured limit level of brightness without software enhancement for auto-tuning is 488 cd / m2 – the result is good even for the LCD screen. But the contrast level is rather disappointing – 1068: 1.Deep black on the View 30 Pro, perhaps, can not wait.

The screen settings are familiar with EMUI 10 devices, with one exception – there is no mode for displaying time and notification icons on the locked screen (Always-On Display). In a smartphone with an LCD screen, this option is really useless, excessive power consumption would block its convenience. Otherwise, everything is familiar: you can choose a dark or light theme of the shell (there are only visual preferences, there will be no gain in energy efficiency), font size, resolution (flexible, Full HD or HD), hide with a dark fill or leave the double front-eye in the area of ​​the status bar , activate the e-book mode – in this case, the screen goes into a monochrome state and “warms up”. Color reproduction can be adjusted by choosing from two presets (“bright” and “normal”) with acceptable color temperature adjustment to your taste. I measured color reproduction with “bright” and “normal” presets at the default color temperature.

In bright mode, the color gamut roughly corresponds to the DCI-P3 standard and even slightly exceeds it – albeit with some bias. The gamma is adequate – 2.18 with almost normal curves. The color temperature is markedly increased – the curve runs very smoothly at 8,000 K. The average deviation of DeltaE in the expanded Color Checker palette (shades of gray + a wide range of color shades) is 4.88, while the norm is 3.00. With a bright color rendering mode, the Honor View 30 Pro shows a bright, rich, but cold and therefore not the most accurate picture.

The standard situation in Honor / Huawei smartphones: for those who like to see a picture as the authors intended it, there is a usual color rendering mode. You should not count on an expanded color gamut and increased brightness / saturation, but everything is very honest. The color gamut exactly corresponds to the sRGB standard, the average gamma is slightly lower than in bright mode (2.12), as well as the color temperature – here it is almost a reference (the curve is kept at 6,600 K). The average deviation of DeltaE on the Color Checker scale falls within the normal range of 2.50.

The sound characteristics of the Honor View 30 Pro do not stand out: there is no mini-jack, the path is ordinary, the external speaker is monaural. But everything you need is in place – there is no problem with wireless data transfer (aptX, aptX HD, LDAC profiles are supported), you will hear a call.

⇡ #Iron and performance

The Honor View 30 Pro is one of the brand’s first 5G smartphones and one of the cheapest 5G smartphones on the market today. True, these are “empty” titles for us – in Russia it is still a long way off before the mass launch of the 5G network, especially since we will most likely use the millimeter range, which is not supported by the Honor View 30 Pro modem anyway.

The hardware platform of the View 30 Pro is already familiar to us from the later Huawei P40 Pro / P40 – HiSilicon Kirin 990 5G. Its main components: eight processor cores (two ARM Cortex-A76 clocked at 2.86 GHz + two ARM Cortex-A76 clocked at 2.09 GHz + four junior ARM Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.86 GHz), graphics in the form of 16-core ARM Mali-G76, a special module for operations related to machine learning (NPU). The platform is made using a 7-nanometer process using EUV lithography.

Kirin 990 5G provides a sufficient level of performance so that all current applications open and work quickly (unless, of course, they generally start on a smartphone without a GMS), any games run and work at a good (but not extreme for some projects) frame rate. In a direct collision with competitors based on Snapdragon 865 and even 855, the Kirin 990 5G will be slightly inferior, primarily in terms of gaming performance, but overall nothing critical – a good modern level that allows the View 30 Pro to feel confident in its price category.

There are absolutely no problems with throttling – in the CPU Throttling Test, there was no reduction in frequencies at all. The average performance level was 195 GIPS.

Honor View 30 Pro comes in a single version with built-in memory: 8 GB of RAM LPDDR4X and 256 GB of flash UFS 3.0. There are no options for increasing the volume of the drive, but 256 gigabytes should be enough for a long time.

If we can speak about 5G purely theoretically, then 4G networks are extremely relevant for us today. In this regard, the Honor View 30 Pro is an absolutely modern device – the manufacturer does not indicate the maximum speed that the built-in modem is capable of, but I did not experience any problems with the connection. All necessary ranges are supported. There are two nano-SIM card slots, both of them are “friends” with LTE.

Wireless modules are relevant, but without flagship chic (which would be expressed in support for Wi-Fi-6): there is Wi-Fi 802.11a / b / g / n / ac, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC and a navigation module with dual-channel GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo and QZSS.

What gives last year’s smartphone in the Honor View 30 Pro is a set of rear cameras. Frontal just in the spirit of the latest flagships Huawei / Honor – dual, with 32-megapixel and 8-megapixel modules, which provide two viewing angles. But the rear ones incorporate the achievements of the Chinese company as of fall 2019.

The main camera is equipped with a 40-megapixel RYYB sensor with dimensions of 1 / 1.7 “, familiar from both Huawei P30 Pro and Huawei Mate 30 Pro. It is supplemented with very high-aperture optics (f/ 1.6) with an equivalent focal length of 27 mm, it is equipped with an optical stabilizer and a hybrid autofocus combining phase and contrast focusing with a laser assistant. The second camera received a 12-megapixel sensor of “cinematic” format 16: 9 (pixel size – 1.4 microns), which is responsible for both shooting video and shooting photos with a wide viewing angle. A lens works with him f/2,2 и эквивалентным фокусным расстоянием 16 мм, есть гибридный автофокус. View 30 Pro обеспечивает трехкратный оптический и пятикратный гибридный зум.

Honor View 30 Pro снимает с разрешением 10 мегапикселей как на основную, так и на зум-камеру — в первом случае при желании можно активировать задействование всех субпикселей и получить 40-мегапиксельное изображение. Формат изображения по умолчанию — 4:3. Широкоугольный модуль выдает картинку с разрешением 12 Мп и формата 16:9 — причем выбрать тот же формат, что и с двумя другими камерами, нельзя, доступны только опции съемки «во весь экран» (20:9) с 10 мегапикселями и квадрат (1:1) с семью. Благодаря такому формату снимки, сделанные на широкоугольный модуль, выглядят подчеркнуто эффектно, но по факту угол обзора здесь далеко не предельный, конкуренты могут предложить и большее. В пользу же View 30 Pro говорит гибридный автофокус, работающий со всеми тремя камерами, благодаря которому тот же широкоугольный модуль можно использовать не только для пейзажей, но и для эффектных крупных планов или макро.

В целом же по возможностям съемки Honor View 30 Pro выглядит одним из лучших смартфонов за свои деньги — конечно, пока не вышел Honor 30. Не предельный, но достаточный зум, прекрасное качество картинки днем при каждом из доступных фокусных расстояний (потери заметны только при пятикратном зуме), а ночью — при съемке на основной и широкоугольный модули (зум-камера уже слегка пасует). Honor View 30 Pro вполне уверенно соперничает с Xiaomi Mi Note 10 и сбрасывает с пьедестала Honor 20 Pro.

Отключаемый ИИ-помощник может сделать цвета более насыщенными и яркими, но злоупотреблять им в смартфонах Honor не стоит — он здесь настроен, как бы так сказать, «молодежно», и работает с некоторым перебором. Производитель это знает — по умолчанию AI-режим отключен.

Ночью Honor View 30 Pro может сделать приличные снимки даже без активации ночного режима — но без шарма Huawei P40/P40 Pro, конечно. При совсем слабой освещенности стоит уже активировать ночной режим, где смартфон будет выстраивать многокадровую экспозицию: изображение в этом случае выглядит не всегда естественно, но всегда детализированно, с качественно высвеченными тенями и полноцветно. Я уже отмечал выше, что по-настоящему хорошо ночью View 30 Pro снимает при помощи основной и широкоугольной камер, зум более ограничен в этом плане. Добавлю, что на широком угле, судя по всему, используется картинка как с 12-мегапиксельного модуля, так и с 40-мегапиксельного, главного, — и объединяется затем в 10-мегапиксельный снимок формата 4:3.

Для портретного режима не предусмотрено специального модуля, но это не мешает смартфону хорошо размывать задний план, выделяя в кадре главное, и корректно фокусироваться (есть режим распознавания лица, конечно). Портреты доступны с тремя фокусными расстояниями, есть бьютификатор и набор фирменных фильтров для зоны нерезкости (разные эффекты боке, заливка фона черным и так далее). С портретами у Vuew 30 Pro все очень хорошо — полноценный флагманский уровень без всяких но.

Меню съемки не отличается от такового в EMUI 10: не слишком удобная система зуммирования (особенно в видео), внятные пиктограммы, зачем-то спрятанный в разделе «Еще» режим съемки с ручными настройками, достаточное число специальных режимов.

Для видео у Honor View 30 Pro выделен специальный модуль на манер Huawei Mate 30 Pro и Huawei P40 Pro – он снимает с широким углом обзора с объединением четырех соседних пикселей в один (для лучшей чувствительности ночью) и с поддержкой HDR. Максимальное разрешение — 4К при кадровой частоте 60p. Есть оптическая стабилизация, которая корректно работает при любом разрешении, но не поражает результатом. Общее качество видео хорошее, но опять, как и в Mate 30 Pro, видео, снятое с обычным углом обзора на «фотографический» сенсор, выглядит более четким и детализированным, чем широкоугольное, снятое на специальный «кинематографический». Чувствительность при видеосъемке также не поражает воображения, но снимать ночью можно. Из дополнительных режимов отмечаем съемку видео с размытием заднего плана и с регулируемой «диафрагмой», а также режим замедленной съемки: доступно Full HD-видео с частотой до 960 кадров в секунду.

Селфи-камера же без всяких скидок хороша. С обычным углом обзора съемка ведется на модуль с разрешением 32 мегапикселя (Quad Bayer, снимки делаются с разрешением 8 Мп) и светосилой ƒ/2,2, с широким углом обзора — на модуль 8 Мп, ƒ/2,2. Оба лишены автофокуса, есть только экранная вспышка, но это не мешает добиваться очень хороших снимков. В общем, двойная фронталка здесь не зря занимает столько места на экране, она правда отлично работает.

C автономностью у Honor View 30 Pro порядок — аккумулятора емкостью 15,58 Вт·ч (4100 мА·ч, 3,8 В) вполне хватает на майский световой день даже при серьезной нагрузке. При включении режима максимальной производительности автономность сократится до 8-9 часов непрерывной работы, но для современного смартфона, тем более с ЖК-экраном диагональю 6,57 дюйма, это тоже очень неплохо.

В нашем тесте с воспроизведением Full HD-видео, на максимальной яркости, с включенным Wi-Fi и автообновлением, результат составил чуть менее 10 часов. Слабее, чем у конкурентов, но объяснение простое — жидкокристаллический дисплей.

Для зарядки используется актуальный порт USB Type-C (USB 3.1), работает фирменная система быстрой зарядки Super Charge мощностью 40 Вт. С ее помощью смартфон заряжается полностью менее чем за час. Поддерживается беспроводная зарядка мощностью до 27 Вт, есть обратная зарядка.

Honor View 30 Pro – это смартфон, который оказался немного на перепутье и при этом окружен многочисленными «если бы». Выйди он у нас одновременно с Китаем — и он мог бы произвести эффект разорвавшейся бомбы: во многом он предвосхитил будущие флагманы Huawei P40/P40 Pro, вышедшие только через полгода. Мог бы, но не произвел бы все равно — на тот момент отсутствие сервисов Google воспринималось еще более серьезным недостатком, чем сегодня.

Сейчас Huawei смогла нивелировать заметную часть проблем, связанных с санкциями США, но, во-первых, не все, а во-вторых, View 30 Pro в России вышел совсем незадолго до грядущего появления Honor 30 – аппарата, который станет логичным развитием идей, заложенных во View 30. По сути, получился смартфон ни для кого — ну или для тех, кому нужен такой вот полуфлагман прямо сейчас и ждать до начала лета невмоготу.

Но не отметить пророческую суть Honor View 30 Pro, который уже сегодня выглядит воплощением ключевых смартфонных трендов 2020-го, нельзя. Это уникальный в своем роде аппарат, который при этом останется незамеченным.

Advantages:

  • отменная основная камера, одна из лучших в классе;
  • лучшая в своем классе фронтальная камера;
  • крупный и хорошо настроенный дисплей;
  • очень быстрая зарядка — как проводная, так и беспроводная;
  • high performance;
  • сочетание цены и характеристик.

Недостатки:

  • нет Google Mobile Services;
  • огромные размеры;
  • рядовой звук;
  • нет мини-джека;
  • нет влагозащиты;
  • нет слота расширения памяти.
