Snapdragon 875 will receive support for 100-watt charging, and the first smartphones will go on sale in the I quarter of 2021

TSMC is already ramping up Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 chip production, and the official announcement of this promising single-chip system will soon follow. However, as usual, we are unlikely to see flagship Android smartphones based on it until 2021. However, there is a significant reason to wait for these new flagships: according to one of the informants, the platform will offer support for high-speed 100-watt charging.

On Twitter, Digital Chat Station reported that in the first quarter of 2021, we can expect the appearance of gaming smartphones equipped with both a single-chip Snapdragon 875 system and a powerful 100-watt charge. The informant, however, did not tell exactly which devices will receive such innovations, but we can assume now.

In the end, Xiaomi has already demonstrated its 100 W Super Charge Turbo technology in 2019: then a smartphone with a 4000 mAh battery fully restored the charge in just 17 minutes. So, at a minimum, we can count on the Black Shark 4 with Snapdragon 875 and 100-W charging.

By the way, the 5nm Snapdragon 875 chip should be a serious step forward compared to the 7nm Snapdragon 865 – in particular, it is expected that the Snapdragon X60 5G modem will be integrated into the crystal (a separate X50 chip is used in the Snapdragon 865). Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon X60 this year, noting that the modem will be available on phones in 2021 (however, rumors claim that it will be used on the iPhone 12). The transition to 5 nm and modem integration should provide a significant increase in energy efficiency and, possibly, will reduce the cost. The only serious question is the efficient heat dissipation in case of the integration of 100-watt charging into smartphones. By the way, it is expected that in July Qualcomm will introduce an improved modern chip called Snapdragon 865 Plus.
