A representative of the Finnish studio Frozenbyte (Trine series), at the request of the PushSquare portal, commented on the situation in connection with which one of the team’s developments turned out to be incompatible with the PlayStation 5.
We’re talking about the stealth action game Shadwen, one of only ten PS4 titles that won’t be available on Sony’s next-gen consoles as part of the backward compatibility program.
“A lot of our PS4 games run on PS5, including all Trine and Nine Parchments. At the same time, for some reason, Shadwen constantly freezes at the loading screen. “, – explained in Frozenbyte.
At the same time, the solution to the problem does not lie on the surface: “If this had happened to one of our more recent games, we would probably have quickly found the cause. Unfortunately, Shadwen is no longer new and uses an outdated version of our engine, which we no longer have. “…
Given Shadwen’s age and the problematic situation, Frozenbyte decided not to try to make the project work on the PS5. Thus, the stealth action game will remain a console PS4 exclusive.
However, not everyone chose the path of Frozenbyte: the developer of the VR shooter DWVR, also not included in the coveted list of PS5-compatible games, has already promised to fix the situation with a patch.
Shadwen was released in May 2016 on PC (Steam, GOG) and PS4. The game did not gain popularity among journalists – on Metacritic the pseudo-medieval stealth action has only 51 to 53 points.
