Tesla CEO Elon Musk shared video footage from a drone showing significant progress in the construction of the Tesla Gigafactory Berlin in Germany. This plant is arguably the most important project for the American automaker in 2021.
As previously reported, the Model Y electric crossover won’t go on sale in Europe until assembly begins at its new plant in Germany. In addition to the Model Y, it will also produce the new 4680 cell size. The Model Y will be the first production vehicle from Tesla to use the new battery pack architecture.

Tesla wrote to its shareholders about Gigafactory Berlin last week: “Local manufacturing and supply remains a key part of our growth strategy. While our overall European market share has increased in 2020, Gigafactory Berlin is expected to generate significant growth in local supply, similar to what we saw after the construction of Gigafactory Shanghai. The construction of our plant in Berlin continues as planned and we have already started moving equipment into the building“.
The automaker indicated that the production of cars at the plant in Germany will begin “Before the end of the year”, but in the documents submitted to the government on this project, it is reported that production here may begin in July. Tesla is also expected to build Model 3 and other car models in Germany.
