Yesterday, the Russian association “Global Universities” announced that it was inadmissible to consider distance education of students as part-time education. Moreover, universities, going to this measure, forced by the pandemic, incur such significant additional costs that they are three times higher than the savings from switching to distance learning. But this is not “money down the drain.” This is a contribution to improving the quality of promising teaching technologies.
The open and public statement of the Association is due to the fact that in the media, according to the organization, idle discussions of the quality of implementation of educational programs in distance learning began. In other words, the society or its individual representatives question the quality of the knowledge obtained in this way. The association states that distance learning belongs to full-time education, and the online learning channels implemented by universities do not reduce the intensity of contact relations between students and teachers.
The Association “Global Universities” includes such educational institutions of the country as IKBFU. I. Kant, FEFU, ITMO, Kazan Federal University, MIPT, NRU HSE, NUST MISIS, NRNU MEPhI, NSU, RUDN, Samara University, Sechenov University, SPbGETU “LETI”, SPbPU, SFU, TSU, TPU, Tyumen State University, Lobachevsky University , UrFU and SURGU.
“Universities bear an additional financial burden, solving the issues of providing students and teachers with technical means of communication and software. On average in Russia, the growth of university costs in the spring semester was about three times higher than their forced savings on premises and reduced academic mobility “, – stated in the press release of the Association.
Moreover, in some cases, the intensity of the educational process increases, and the number of hours that teachers and students spend in contact is increasing. At the same time, it should be noted that the intensity of the workload on teachers has increased many times over. It is necessary to monitor and check the work of students at many new segments of the educational process. That is who we should wish strong nerves and health.
