It became known that the first commercial Earth remote sensing (ERS) spacecraft, created by a Russian company for a foreign customer, has passed all the necessary tests and will be launched into space this summer. This was reported by the TASS news agency with reference to the words of the General Designer of the Russian Scientific and Production Concern “Barl” Valery Labutin.
“This year we are launching the first commercial spacecraft as part of the creation of a space system for a foreign customer, which is scheduled for the summer – second quarter of 2021. As part of a commercial contract, we have created an average Earth remote sensing apparatus with a linear resolution slightly worse than 1-1.1 m“, – said Mr. Labutin during a speech at the round table of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy on the prospects for commercial space programs.
During the speech, it was also noted that the spacecraft has already passed all the necessary tests and is currently fully ready for launch. According to available data, the projection of the pixel of the first domestic ERS satellite for a foreign customer is 0.73 m, and its mass is 650 kg. The service life of the device is five years with the possibility of extending the operating period to seven years.
