The search for the second air leakage location in the Zvezda module of the Russian segment of the International Space Station (ISS) has been suspended. This, as reported by “RIA Novosti”, said the director of the ISS department at NASA headquarters Robin Gatens.
The orbital complex, we recall, is losing its atmosphere due to a small crack. During various checks, it was found that the problem affects the intermediate chamber (IC) of the Zvezda block. Moreover, at the end of last year it became known that there is another gap in the PrK, but its location has not yet been established.
And now it became known that the cosmonauts were forced to temporarily stop searching for a gap and isolate the Zvezda intermediate chamber. This is due to the fact that the station is running out of gas reserves to replenish the leak.
“Until the next Progress arrives, we have isolated this compartment and will periodically pressurize it when the pressure in it drops below the permissible level“, – the message says.
The launch of the Progress MS-16 cargo vehicle is scheduled for February 15th. This device will deliver gas supplies to the ISS, as well as a specialized repair kit, with which the astronauts will try to eliminate the air leak.
