The State Corporation Roscosmos informs that on October 23, firing bench tests of the second stage of the Angara-1.2 rocket were successfully carried out. This is one of the final stages of ground testing of the product.
Let’s remind that “Angara-1.2” is a light class carrier. The first launch of the rocket was carried out from the Plesetsk cosmodrome back in July 2014. At that time, the carrier used two universal rocket modules: “URM-1” of the first stage and “URM-2” of the second stage.
In the future, during orbital launches, the URM-2 module will be located only on the Angara-A3 and Angara-A5 missiles. A new second stage is being designed for the Angara-1.2 launch vehicle.
“In the course of the passed tests, specialists from the Salyut Design Bureau of the M.V. Khrunichev, NRC RCP and the Design Bureau of Chemical Automatics conducted a comprehensive check of all systems of the second stage of the carrier and the objectivity of the design and technological solutions“, – said today in the message of Roskosmos.
Bench testing of the second stage will make it possible to continue flight design tests of the new light carrier.
Let us add that the Angara is a family of missiles of various classes, created on the basis of a universal rocket module with oxygen-kerosene engines. The family includes carriers from light to heavy classes in the range of carrying capacities from 3.5 t to 37.5 t.
