The ministry promised that Russians will not be left without a home Internet next week

It became known that the previously reported interruptions in communication can affect only an “extremely small” number of home Internet subscribers in Russia. RBC writes about this with reference to the words of Andrei Kantsurov, Director of the Department of State Policy in the Field of Communications of the Ministry of Digital Industry.

Earlier it was reported that operators of fixed wireless Internet access would be forced to turn off their networks due to the expiration of the permission of the State Commission on Radio Frequencies, which is the main body for the distribution of this resource in Russia, for the use of frequencies in the range 3.4-3 , 6 GHz. The current permission of the SCRF to use the frequencies of the specified range expires on March 11.

Commenting on this issue, Andrey Kantsurov said that “Russian subscribers will not be left without home Internet“. He also added that in the near future a meeting of the State Committee for Radio Frequencies should be held, within the framework of which the issue of extending the period of use of frequencies in the 3.5 GHz range will be considered.

Already, telecom operators can use other frequency ranges allocated to them and continue to provide Internet access services. At the same time, they will have to timely replace subscriber equipment in order to exclude interruptions in communication, which may affect an extremely small number of Internet subscribers (several thousand in different regions of the country)“, – added Mr. Kantsurov.

The source also notes that the operators discussed the possibility of extending the use of the specified frequency range with representatives of the State Committee for Radio Frequencies last year. The most active in this matter were Megafon and Rostelecom.
