“Scientific and Production Association named after S. A. Lavochkina ”, according to RIA Novosti, plans to sign a contract and begin production of three Arktika-M satellites next year.
The Arctic-M project provides for the formation of a highly elliptical hydrometeorological space system. The spacecraft will provide round-the-clock all-weather monitoring of the Earth’s surface and the seas of the Arctic Ocean, as well as constant reliable communication and other telecommunication services.
The actual formation of the Arctic-M satellite system is planned to begin this year: in December, the first satellite of the family will go into orbit. The second unit is already being manufactured, which will be launched in 2023. In addition, plans include the creation of three more satellites of the family.
“The contract for the manufacture of three more devices is planned to be concluded in 2021. Currently, work is underway on a feasibility study of the cost of manufacture“, – said the general director of NPO Lavochkina Vladimir Kolmykov.
The satellite onboard equipment will include a multizone scanning hydrometeorological support device (MSU-GSM) and a heliogeophysical instrument complex (GGAK). In addition, satellites will receive GLONASS-GPS equipment.
