The Ryzen 5000 family of processors based on the Zen 3 architecture began shipping last week. As expected, the chips received rave reviews from the press. We liked them very much too. Although the new items did not win the crown of the championship in absolutely all tests, without exception, in most of them they left direct competitors far behind.
After the reviews, many potential buyers wanted to see for themselves the performance of the new AMD processors, but unfortunately they learned that all the first batches of chips were sold out within minutes from the start of their sales. Back in September, AMD’s chief game architect and marketer, Frank Azor, argued with a Twitter user for $ 10 that his company would not follow in the footsteps of NVIDIA with the failed launch of GeForce 30-series graphics cards. In particular, Azor then said that the launch of new Radeon video cards would not be “paper-based”.
Needless to say, many have decided that AMD’s confidence extends to the launch of the new Ryzen 5000 processors as well? Unfortunately, these hopes had to be shattered by harsh reality. Retailers don’t have processors. And those that were initially, for the most part, ended up on the secondary sale sites. For example, on the same eBay you can find Ryzen 9 5900X offers at prices ranging from $ 1,000 to $ 1,100 with a recommended cost of $ 549.
Recently, Azor himself decided to return to the topic of launching new AMD products and responded to a tweet from one of the users that the launch of Ryzen 9 5900X turned out to be “paper”:
There’s a big difference between a “paper launch” and shipping tons of units but demand exceeds supply.

“There is a big difference between a paper launch and supplying a bunch of processors when demand exceeds supply.”– said Frank Azor.
AMD’s chief architect’s response can be compared to earlier statements by NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huagn about “excess demand” for GeForce RTX 3070, RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 graphics cards. In fairness, it is worth noting that not only manufacturers faced a shortage of their products video cards and processors, but also consoles of the new generation PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S and Series X. There won’t be enough consoles for everyone this year.
On another Twitter thread, Azor said that the company has tried to do everything possible to minimize the impact of bots and speculators on the overwhelming demand for new items:
Yes, we made a strong effort & succeeded in many cases. It’s a battle that is never completely won but I applaud our teams efforts & those of our partners during this round. We continue to learn & adapt with every launch. We want our products in the hands of their intended users.

“Yes, we have made great efforts and achieved success in many areas. This is a battle that cannot be completely won. But I applaud the work of our team and our partners who took part in this battle. We keep learning and adapting to every launch [нового продукта]… We want our products to be in the hands of interested users. “…
Some real buyers did get the new Ryzen 5000 series processors. For example, Zen 3 chips have become the most popular processors on the Amazon marketplace. However, there are thousands, if not millions of potential buyers in the world who are still waiting to buy them.
On our own, we add that the situation with a deficit and speculators in Russia is still difficult to predict, since the start of sales of new AMD processors in our country was delayed due to the lack of notification (a document required for importing goods) for processors. It was only prepared on November 5th. Thanks to the leak, it became known that the Zen 3 generation processors will enter the Russian market next week. By the way, new items have already appeared on the window of the Onlinetrade online store. Surprisingly, the Russian retailer displayed AMD’s recommended prices on its virtual showcase.
And yet, given the history of previous product launches this year, it is difficult to express confidence that the situation with the launch of the new Radeon RX 6800 and RX 6800 XT graphics cards, which will go on sale from November 18, will somehow change.
