It became known about the plans of the Gazprom-Media holding to create two video services in 2021-2022, which should become analogs of the popular video hosting YouTube. Kommersant writes about this with reference to the words of the head of Gazprom-Media Alexander Zharov.
One of the future services will be the modernized Rutube platform, while the second will be a completely new resource. “We have the Rutube platform in our asset portfolio, and we have been working with it for a long time, about a year, to modernize it, make it no worse than YouTube in terms of the tools that are present on it, and better in terms of using various monetization mechanisms. This is not the only UGC site that we plan to launch … I believe that a second site will appear in 2022“, – said Mr. Zharov during his speech at the National Advertising Forum.
It is assumed that Russian video services will differ from each other. On one of the sites, users will be able to post long videos, while the second will support the publication of only short videos.
During his speech, Mr. Zharov also spoke out against possible blocking of the YouTube service due to restrictions on access to materials from Russian media. We will remind, last week the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin announced possible changes in the mechanism of regulation of foreign Internet platforms such as YouTube. Last month, a bill was already submitted to the State Duma, under which it is proposed to fine Internet resources for censorship of Russian media. The reason for the development of this bill was the restrictions that YouTube imposed on the film “Beslan” of the TV channel “Russia 1”. Similar claims have also been made repeatedly against Facebook, Google and Twitter.
