Volkswagen has unveiled the ID.4 electric crossover. The car will be available in two versions: with one electric motor and rear-wheel drive, as well as four-wheel drive and two electric motors. In the first case, the power of the power plant will be 201 hp, and in the second – 302 hp. Both versions will offer the same 82 kWh battery, which should be enough for 400 kilometers on a single battery charge.
According to the resource The verge, the company will provide ID.4 US customers with the ability to refill their electric crossover batteries at Electrify America charging stations for three years free of charge. When using them, it will be possible to replenish the battery from 5 to 80% in 38 minutes.
When using a standard charger, the battery will recharge up to 100% in 7.5 hours. One hour of charging is enough for 50 kilometers. An interesting feature of the car is that its front axle is equipped with disc brakes, and the rear axle with drum brakes. According to the manufacturer, this configuration works better with regenerative braking energy.
The car will receive 19-inch wheels as standard. For an additional fee, you can choose an option with 20-inch disks.
Inside, the Volkswagen ID.4 looks like an electric car, like a spaceship. The dashboard is equipped with a 5.3-inch digital display. The center console is ready to offer a 10-inch or 12-inch touchscreen. The car understands the voice commands of the driver and passengers, as well as some gestures. The doors are illuminated.
The package can also include a rain sensor, auto-dimming mirrors, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, heated steering wheel, washer nozzles and windshield, wireless charging for mobile devices, Wi-Fi hotspot, panoramic roof and much more.
The Volkswagen ID.4 will start at $ 39,995. For this money, the buyer will receive a rear-wheel drive single-engine version. Thanks to the federal preferential program in the United States, the car will cost $ 32,495. This version of the electric crossover will go on sale in the first quarter of 2021. The four-wheel drive version with two motors and a cost of $ 43,695 will have to wait until the second half of next year.
As the resource indicates EngadgetThe main competitors of the Volkswagen ID.4 electric crossover in the US market will be the Kia Nero EV and Hyundai Kona EV models.
