Western Digital has announced new hard drives designed for use in networked storage, video surveillance systems and other specialized equipment.
In particular, WD Red Pro 3.5-inch drives with a capacity of 16 and 18 TB are presented. The devices are based on traditional magnetic recording technology (CMR). The spindle rotation speed is 7200 rpm. The solutions are suitable for use in network attached storage (NAS) operating around the clock. In addition, these drives can form the backbone of various RAID arrays.
A new WD Purple hard drive has also been announced. This drive, made in a 3.5-inch form factor, is capable of storing 18 TB of information. The solution is designed for video surveillance systems and video analytics.
Finally, there is a WD Purple SC QD101 microSD card that can hold 1TB of data. The product is designed primarily for video cameras with artificial intelligence. The operating temperature range extends from minus 25 to plus 85 degrees Celsius.
WD Red Pro and WD Purple hard drives will go on sale in October, and the WD Purple SC QD101 card will be available in November. Unfortunately, there is no information about the approximate price of new products.
