It has become known that the web version of the popular WhatsApp messenger no longer works in the old Microsoft Edge browser, also known as Edge Legacy. This notification appears when you try to use the messaging service in an outdated browser.
Earlier this year, Microsoft introduced a new Chromium-based Edge browser. A few months after that, the developers reported that the old version of the Edge web browser would no longer be supported next year. Now it became known that the web version of the popular WhatsApp messenger no longer works in the old browser.
According to reports, when trying to open WhatsApp in old Edge, a message appears stating that the service is running on Edge 80 or newer. “To use WhatsApp, update Windows 10 to get the latest version of Microsoft Edge, or use Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Opera“, – is said in the message shown to users of the old Internet browser.
It’s worth noting that you don’t need to take any special steps to start using the new Edge. Just install the recent Windows 10 October 2020 Update, which already uses the new Edge as the default browser. It is also known that next year Microsoft will drop support for Internet Explorer 11, the development of which has long been discontinued.
