MSI PRO 24X 10M

when you need another PC at home / Laptops and PCs

Only now, having sat down to write this review, I realized how long we have not tested monoblocks! The last time this happened was at the beginning of 2017, when the Lenovo IdeaCentre AIO Y910 came to our test lab. Meanwhile, today, when another personal computer is needed at home, this type of device looks very interesting. Largely due to the fact that the candy bar does not take up much space on the table, but, unlike a laptop, it has a screen with a large diagonal, and even located at a height that is more comfortable and useful for the user’s neck. Well, that’s why we in the editorial office did not refuse to test the MSI PRO 24X 10M – an inexpensive All In One computer.

MSI PRO 24X 10M

⇡ # Specifications

You will find several MSI PRO 24X 10M models on sale – all of them are assembled in a single case and come with a 60 cm screen. In fact, the difference between the monoblocks is only in the processor used, the amount of RAM, the power of the external power supply and the built-in wireless Wi Fi controller. As you can see, the PRO 24X 10M series uses Intel’s energy efficient chips found in ultrabooks and low-cost laptops. Nevertheless, the review deals with one of the advanced versions of the candy bar – PRO 24X 10M-034XRU. The device is sold without a preinstalled operating system and comes with 8 GB of DDR4-2666 RAM, as well as a 256 GB SSD. In Moscow, such a modification of the “proshka” at the time of this writing cost average50,000 rubles.

Monoblocks are powered by an external power supply. In the case of the test version, a 90-watt power supply unit from Chicony was included – small and light, and therefore it will not be difficult to hide it.

Besides, any MSI PRO 24X 10M comes with a simple wired mouse + keyboard set. I will not focus on the periphery of the candy bar, but it’s nice that the device is ready to go, as they say, out of the box.

⇡ # Appearance

The candy bar looks stern. On sale you will find black and silver versions of the computer. Family members did not recognize the MSI PRO 24X 10M as an all-in-one, but thought that there was a simple monitor on the table. Indeed, the thickness of the device body without legs is only 45 mm.

The outer casing of the monoblock is made mostly of plastic, although part of the back surface of the screen is made of brushed metal. The display bezels are thin, with a thickness of only 2.2 mm at the top and sides.

A silver model came to our office. The main interfaces of the device are located on the back and left. On the monoblock body there is only a power button, I did not find any buttons for adjusting the screen brightness level and speaker volume.

On the left side there is an on / off button, two 3.5 mm mini-jacks for connecting a microphone and headphones, and a pair of USB 3.2 Gen1 A-type ports. There are four more USB Type A on the rear panel: two USB 2.0 and two USB 3.2 Gen1. There are also two RJ-45s at once (the device is equipped with two gigabit Realtek controllers) and HDMI 1.4 output.

Some MSI PRO 24X 10M models come with a card reader. I would like the monoblock to receive an HDMI input – in this case, the device can work in monitor mode. The motivation is simple: after a certain time, the platform will become outdated, but a good quality 24-inch screen will probably still come in handy on the farm.

The monoblock stands firmly on a V-shaped metal leg. The screen can only be adjusted along the horizontal axis. Moreover, the angle of inclination is small: about 30 degrees.

If desired, the leg can be removed, and the monoblock can be hung on a bracket with a 75 × 75 mm mount.

Finally, we note the partial possibility of upgrading the candy bar. There is a “pocket” on the right side of the case that allows you to install a 2.5-inch drive into the assembly.

I say “partial possibility” – because the MSI PRO 24X 10M is hard to disassemble, and I, fearing to damage the case, quickly stopped trying to remove the rear plastic cover. So it would be very cool to equip any monoblocks with removable hatches that open access to the SO-DIMM and M.2 ports. Nevertheless, over time, the user will definitely want to add another 8 GB of RAM to the system, as well as change the NVMe drive to a larger model.

⇡ # Display and sound

I suppose when choosing a gaming laptop, the user first of all pays attention to the performance of the main components, as well as how effectively they are cooled. When choosing a candy bar, we first look at its screen. Firstly, because the diagonal determines the size of the computer. Secondly, because in devices like the MSI PRO 24X 10M, performance is not the dominant factor when choosing – this all-in-one is not designed for gaming with high system requirements, nor for performing resource-intensive tasks.

Display tested using X-Rite i1Display Pro colorimeter and DisplayCAL 3 app

And this is where MSI PRO 24X 10M shows itself in all its glory, because the monoblock uses a very good quality IPS matrix. The display has received an anti-reflective coating, and its maximum brightness reaches 306 cd / m22… Unfortunately, I was not able to use the software to determine what kind of matrix is installed in the candy bar – in all applications it is listed as MSI AIO.

The picture quality of the MSI PRO 24X 10M screen can be described as very good. The color gamut is almost entirely sRGB, and the average deviations in the DisplayCAL 3 extended test are almost normal. Taking into account the fact that the candy bar is intended for home and office programs, I do not see any reason to find fault with the quality of its image at all – this profile is quite enough for watching movies and surfing the web.

But the sound in the MSI PRO 24X 10M frankly let us down. A pair of 2.5-watt speakers are installed here, but they can be safely called quiet. There are also problems with quality: the sound is flat, expressionless and dull. In principle, such “buzzer” will be enough for watching some ordinary spinal talk shows. But for watching TV shows and movies, as well as listening to your favorite music, you should get better speakers.

⇡ # Cooling system efficiency and performance

As already mentioned, the test laboratory rarely studies monoblocks, so there was nothing to compare the level of performance of the device under study. In addition, lately I have been mainly engaged in gaming laptops, and MSI PRO 24X 10M does not belong to the class of gaming solutions. In general, it was decided to compare the hero of today’s review with the MSI GF65 Thin 9SEXR model, equipped with a 4-core Core i5-9300H chip and GeForce RTX 2060 mobile graphics. This is done so that you understand how much the test monoblock will perform worse or maybe be, better when performing some resource-intensive tasks.

  • 3DMark Professional Edition 2.11.6846. Testing in Time Spy and Fire Strike scenes.

The MSI PRO 24X 10M cooling system, dubbed Silent Pro Cooling, does its job well. The tangential fan draws in air from the bottom and blows it out through the upper grille of the casing.

The manufacturer claims that Silent Pro Cooling has a server-class thermal module, but what it is, I honestly don’t even suspect. But I see that the cooler provides the 4-core Core i5-10210U with the ability to work with the declared TDP of 15 W. With such characteristics, the chip frequency in Adobe Premiere Pro 2020 is kept at 2.1-2.3 GHz with an average value of 2.27 GHz. The noise level measured from a distance of 30 cm was 36.5 dBA. The monoblock cooler is clearly audible, but the computer cannot be called loud.

Note that the BIOS of the device does not have a wealth of interesting and useful functions for the user. In this regard, MSI PRO 24X 10M is not much different from the vast majority of notebooks. For example, we cannot change the PL1 and PL2 parameters for the processor, because the TDP of a 4-core can (according to the Core i5-10210U specifications) both decrease and increase.

The monoblock performed well in the PCMARK 10 test. It can be seen that in the Essentials subtest the MSI PRO 24X 10M scored slightly less than the MSI GF65 Thin 9SEXR gaming laptop. This means that in light tasks such as launching applications, surfing the Internet and video conferencing, the energy efficient Core i5-10210U is not much inferior to the gaming Core i5-9300H. Plus, the candy bar uses a fast (against the background of analogs with SATA 6 Gb / s) SSD from Samsung. The MZVLQ256HAJD-00000 model belongs to the PM991 series and easily overcomes the 1000 MB / s mark in linear read / write operations.

In general, it is clear that the MSI PRO 24X 10M is not designed for resource-intensive tasks. Even the 4-core Core i5-9300H processes graphics and video noticeably faster – the effect of the chip’s operation at a noticeably higher clock frequency. And you can always shoulder such tasks on the shoulders of mobile graphics.

Finally, this all-in-one cannot be called a gaming one, because all MSI PRO 24X 10M rely on the integrated graphics of the central processing units installed in them.

True, the concept of “play” can always be interpreted in different ways. For example, I ran Tanks on a candy bar in Full HD resolution using the minimum graphics quality. As a result, I got an average of 97 frames per second with rare drawdowns up to 48 FPS. And you can also indulge yourself with old games that will work great on Intel’s “build-in” – personally checked when creating an article “10 old but interesting games that will run even on a very weak computer.” There would be a desire, as they say.

⇡ # Conclusions

MSI PRO 24X 10M left a pleasant impression and minimal criticism. The candy bar can be blamed, perhaps, only for the weak upgrade capabilities. As for the rest, I believe the Taiwanese manufacturer has a good all-in-one PC. A high-quality IPS-matrix is installed here, the system is effectively cooled and the cooler does not work very loudly.
